Very good catflap but can be tricky to program
I've used the Petsafe catflap for over 5 years. I moved house and put a new one in last November (4 months ago). They are very reliable and can be installed by any competant handyman but you do have to cut the large holes to fit it. Once fitted you have to then program the flap to allow access to just the chip that is in your cat. That can be tricky because you have to put it in program mode and then get your cat to go through it. Definitely do this BEFORE fitting the catflap because cats don't like being forced to go through! It uses 4 AA batteries and they last me about 5 months but I have 2 cats, maybe they last longer if you only have 1 cat. At £48 I think its a bargain and would definitely recommend it.

Top quality cat flap
An excellent cat flap that was straight forward to install. The 4-way locking mechanism is also very easy to use. A great product by a reliable and reputable company.

It works but is noisey
I bought this particular brand of cat flap purely because it was on offer.Since I had a brown one already (another brand) in a white PVC door, which was being moved elsewhere, it seemed logical to pick the white one so it didn’t stand out as much.Luckily the hole from the previous flap was only marginally smaller so it was easy to cut it a little bigger for this one.As we soon found out however, the similarities between the 2 brands are fairly minimal. The other brand requires my cat to put her head into the tunnel to activate the catches, whereas this one appears to have some sort of radar for whenever she passes within 10 foot of it. That wouldn’t be a problem if A) she didn’t like to sit and look out of it without actually going out & B) it wasn’t the noisiest cat flap on earth. All night all we can hear from the kitchen is CLUNK, CLICK as she goes anywhere near it or like most cars, takes 10 minutes to decide if she is coming in or not. And this seems to be going on all night. The whole thing is so noisey and I can’t imagine why since the other brand isn’t.Thankfully I haven’t had the battery drain problem others have reported but I’m wondering if the fact it lights up every time something. Goes anywhere near it is what’s causing the battery issues for most people. I’ve no idea what it’s doing since my leg clearly doesn’t have a microchip (well, unless I’ve been implanted and didn’t know it) so I wouldn’t expect it to light up when I go near it to open the door, but it does. Granted, it doesn’t CLUNK CLICK at me, but it’s doing something if it’s lighting up.So, as far as microchip cat flaps go it’s working fine. It was quick and easy to set up and so far no issues with its operation.Just wish there was some way to make it quieter as I’d never realised how indecisive my cat was until we got this as now watching TV or trying to sleep comes with an background soundtrack if the cat is anywhere near it.I’m not sure if this is normal or if I got a duff one since no one else has really mentioned the noise, but unless you have had previous microchip flaps to compare it too maybe people assume this is normal? So 4 stars as it’s works fine but losing 1 star for the noise of operation.

Why did you choose this product over others?:Had identicle one before, so proven track record. Cats use it and it keeps out the marauders as its a chip set jobby. It has a reasonable power useage with the batteries depending on use of course, and is compatible with a prey detector stopping cat and live mouse being 'loose in the hoose', it is reasonably draft free, and is quite sturdy when another unwelcome visitor tries to enter and there is a scuffle at the door with lots of swearing going on. It allows the cat to check the area before exiting and the detents are fast acting when they wish to enter at top speed if they are being tailgated by an unfriendly. The door can be a little noisey after a while, but you get used to it. Jolly handy in the winter when they come and go as they please.Good product for the money.

Avoid!
Please avoid this item. I bought this in June and by August it has already stopped working. Meaning my Cats cannot get back into the house.I bought this cat flap because I had the same one for years and the only reason the old one needed replacing was because the clips that go up and down had snapped off. However, with this one I've barely had it 2 months and the sensor has stopped working. Meaning my cats (who are used to the noise of the cat flap) are pushing themselves uselessly against the flap which will not open.I don't normally write negative reviews but because this puts the safety of cats at risk I knew I had to. Having seen the other reviews I don't know if we all got a faulty batch or if these are knock-offs. The only reason I got it from here is because my usual place of purchase was out of stock. Please do not buy!

Like the product but not 100% success
Product purchased to replace standard cat flap as a stray cat was coming in at night and eating our cat's food.Sturdy item and easy to fit and easy to programme. Our cat is a big british shorthaired boy 6.5kg and flap advertised as ok for cats up to 7kg. Our cat exits fine, but seems to struggle getting back in. He is putting his head in but not always far enough to trigger lock mechanism to open. He tends to be scratching the outside of the door and the depth of the plastic around the door flap seems to hinder him getting his hips and back legs through. It's a real shame as it's working keeping strays out, but we are having to open door to let our cat in. Just wish the cat flap was marginally bigger for our big boy for a 5 star success rate.
