Making Sense of Squiggly Lines Paperback – Print, January 1, 2011

This book is clear and easy to follow with great example illustrations with insightful analysis in text to accompany the illustrations. There's a few passages that are a bit more technical but overall I don't think you need an engineering degree or anything like that to get a lot of value from this book. I'd agree with the opening stanzas in the book -- it's definitely going to be more interesting if your focus is on driver improvement; its not really as good as other sources if your focus is on car engineering.If you have a way to generate data for yourself, this book will definitely help you find opportunities for self-improvement in that data. This is not the book to tell you _how_ to improve your driving technique -- it's more about drawing your attention to opportunities for improvement. Identifying the problem, though, is often half the battle. I've used things I've learned from this book with real world data sets (Race Keeper) and also with virtual world data sets (iRacing with iSpeed and ATLAS) and I found the book content equally applicable to both. Compared to the other oft mentioned books in this field that are either double the price or more, seriously technical or barely available anymore this one is a bargain you can put hands on quickly.

Great outline and tons of tips and strategies for looking at data as well as what to focus on to gain most benefit for the “regular racer”

People who have been in and around motorsport for years might find most or all of this stuff second nature but for many of us it really is trying to 'Make sense of squiggly lines'. This book does a fantastic job of explaining all the data available in uncomplicated terms with tons of clear examples. Highly recommended!

Great book for the beginner to learn the Motec System for data acquisition.I did not understand much until I read the book and starting analyzing the data.Thank you Chris

Shipped quick. Full of a lot of useful info. I bought this to use in conjunction with MOTEC to improve my sim racing abilities.

Get this book! Well, I need 17 more words before I can 'submit'. So, I never understood how to make sense or use effectively the data from my data collection unit. This book is paving the circuit of knowledge needed to lower my lap times. It is worth what I paid. OK, that was 48 more. If you are reading this, I met the minimum requirements.

Lots of great info and guidance on how to interpret data - I also found sections applicable to karting too.

This is the benchmark book. If you are interested in improving your driving performance utilizing metrics provided by an on-board data loggers, this is your primer. I read it cover to cover....with no intention of doing so.

I'm a sim racer using MoTec to study telemetry from iRacing. This helps understand the squiggly lines greatly.
