Good quality, no issues, I recommend
As just a reader, I don't really collect books, it's not hardcover yet really in a good condition. I loved the page contrast, makes it feel vintage.

Truly a memoir.
Three things you need to gulp the lines from this book are interest, patience and time. Combined effort of these three will only take you so far to the last of this book on 493rd page. A great read on the lives of Geishas who were often considered as a subject of taboo or many myths to surround this ancient Japanese culture and rituals associated with it. But I said 'were' , now that you set out to read such a curious Asian culture you can abstract the lifestyle of a lot many Geishas from different districts even if it is a memoir of one Geisha. Coming to the book , it perfectly intertwines all the lives that gets affected or has affected the Geisha in one way or the other. Such a dramatic storytelling that you can always picture the book, each line of it like watching a documentary. A first hand account into the struggle, myth busters, lives under air raids and culture will immerse you till half of the book considering its bulk content. Hold your patience to the last as the ending has its own charm to offer. Only one demerit is half way through you will feel the story is getting stretched and repetitive unnecessarily like the author is having doubt on readers' potential to remember the facts & jargon related to Geisha culture. So give it a try if you can expense the above mentioned 3 things for this read.

Such a phenomenal book
If you had seen the movie and thought that it was an excellent movie then you might as well read the book because the book is exceptionally phenomenal. It is so much more than the movie. When you read the book you can feel Sayuri's pain and the loss she had to bear to walk the path of a geisha. And to think that this was written by a male author is another story . I fail to understand how a person especially that of a Arthur being a man could bring so much emotion and life into Sayuri that for a moment I thought he was Sayuri herself. He is exceptionally talented to be able to write such a work of art.'Memoirs of a Geisha' is narrated by a geisha named Sayuri and the book is about the struggles, pain and the tragedy she had to go through physically, emotionally and mentally to become one of the most famous geisha of Gion overcoming all the misfortunes that came across her path. The story revolves around a certain 'Chairman' who had shown her kindness when she was a little girl crying by the bridge on a pleasant afternoon. The day he showed her kindness was the day she had a complete turn in life . She had a purpose to live. She felt that the only way she could reach the Chairman was by being a Geisha and from then on she was determined to become a Geisha who was worthy to be in his presence .I definitely don't want to spoil the book so grab a copy and read the book. Though you have watched the movie you will discover many new things that were important which were excluded from the movie as it is hard to include every element included in a 428 pages book in a 2 houur movie.

Listless
Rather slow moving storyline, but the characters are well developed and that draws one into the tale. The book is a sensitive story that delves into the world of the Japanese geisha. A balanced narrative that is neither cumbersome to read nor needlessly extravagant. However upon completing the book, I couldn't help feeling that the final impression is that it is listless.

From this book reader will experience the real culture of Japan, and people entertainment, partying of rich folk during those times. This is real story of unnoticed small girl becoming a successful geisha, who has seen lows and ups of life, totmentd by emotions of life, love, betrayal as a child, finally lives a peaceful life at the end.but its about a real life story about sayuri, who protrayed her life story to the author, most of the time this story seems to be real but some time I had feeling that some real facts were hidden from this book. Need to have patience and passion to know about geisha culture before buying this book.

Belíssimo
Comprei uma edição usada, e amei o produto. Adoro livros antigos, amarelados. Valeu muito a pena, tanto por isso quanto pelo conteúdo do livro, que é uma história incrível. A entrega foi rápida e o livro veio muito bem embalado.

Beautifully written
I have read Memoirs of a Geisha 3 times now. It’s a very rare thing that I come back and re-read a book. The imagery of this book is breathtaking. The descriptions transport you to Gion and into the world of Chiyo/Sayuri.A story of coming of age, transition and growth. There is sadness, triumph, overcoming adversity and joy. I cannot recommend this book enough to those who are curious about the mysterious world of geisha and Japanese history and culture.
