Recommended - gives a clear overview of English Phonetics & Phonology. Descriptive kind - describes various aspects of speech, rather than prescribing rules. Beginners may find defintions rather vague, due to its descriptive nature. However, once they focus less on definitions, they'll be able to manage. The CDs are also useful and the book contains the transcript and solutions to questions.

Simplicity and mode of presentation,really excellent
The book offers a study of the rules and principles of English Phonetics in a remarkably sipmle, lucid style that makes it quite understandable even to the beginners.
