This is a quality, accurate, easy to read, thermometer. I checked with my lazer Therm Pro & they were within 1 degree of each other.

I live in a townhouse and used a bird feeder stand to mount the thermometer so I could read it through my patio window. It was actually better than mounting it directly to the fence because I didn’t have to fold out the metal tabs, and I could rotate it so I could read it head on instead of at an angle. I used a piece of scrap wood to mount it to the stand. I look at it from inside about 10 ft away, and the 12 inch size is fine for that. The 18 inch one would be too big for my fence.The temperature reading has consistently been within 1 or 2 degrees of my weather app, so I didn’t need to calibrate it. Make sure to put it in the shade or else you might see wider temperature swings due to the sunlight (for any thermometer).It does feel a little “flimsy”, but who cares? I’m not trying to hammer a nail with it; I just want to look at it. And for cold MN winters, it helps to be made of metal, so I’m glad for that. 5 stars overall.

The size is awesome! I was having a horrible time seeing the temperature inside the greenhouse at night with the night vision, so this termometer is a great value, very functional being able to see it at a distance, easy to install, and accurate (you just don't want it hanging directly in the sunlight). Watched it go from freezing to 120+ degrees in the greenhouse during the day before ventilating. Great purchase, love the size as I am getting more, and more blind with age. :D

First, the box that this thermometer is in is NOT the box for a thermometer, as it says 'install battery... there is NO battery compartment and NO clock. Second, the front clear plastic lens is scratched, as it did not have a cover over it for shipping. Third, the temperature gage is open on back and subject to moisture even though it will be under a porch. How this will be accurate or hold up is a chance that you take. Fourth, it is very cheaply constructed. Would have to be well anchored to the wall as wind would blow it away. And it does not come with screws, so for that amount of money this is a poor product.My add… Everything above x2. Saved me typing. This item should cost $5 or less. It says very robust construction. I am an engineer, it is hardly robust. For my Mom for her 93rd BD. Hope it lasts for a few years. Don't buy.

Mounted in shaded area of backyard, I can see the out side temperature from my kitchen window. Here in Nevada, I don't have to step outside into 110° weather to see the temperature, this is big enough to see from a distance.
