How do you get the metal insert to go in all the way?

Dear customer please do not worry, this design is just right, when you push the plug into the shell just take little bit hard is ok, it is easy. Step 1: Put the Cable through the housing to the plug Step 2: Solder the cable to the plug Step 3: Push the plug into the shell until the shell holds the plug

What gauge wire do these connectors support?

I am using these with 18 gauge Pomona test lead wires, very nice choice.

What AWG size will this fit?

the end is 4mm. best fit 14awg. 12awg will be tight

No matter what I try the metal part does not go fully into the plastic cover. Are these defective?

Check the solder joints, no higher than the metal Push it with the help of a female plug or another probe
