Best cooling bed for pets
This is my 5th time buying this product? Not because it's defective or anything was wrong, but bc I keep moving and its more cost effective for me to buy a new one rather than moving it cross country several times. I've used this on both my dogs (60 lbs each- Collie and pitbull), my rabbit, and my cat occ enjoys sleeping on this as well. My collie tends to paw on all his beds and it has never ripped. I use this in both my dogs crates and they go in there on their own to sleep on this. My collie LOVES this in the summer and I save a lot on energy by not needing to turn on the AC all the time bc he just goes on this to sleep if he feels hot. My pitbull has a ton of orthopedic issues and this def helps him. When I still had my rabbit, I bought a small one for him and he was on it all the times, sometimes he went to sleep with the dogs on their cooling bed. Mine never chewed on the bed so it was safe for him. He would paw and dig on the bed all the time and again, never got damaged or leaked water. The longest I've had these cooling beds was prob 3-4 yrs before I move again and replaced it, so I can't comment on whether these beds lasting longer, but I feel that it was a great investment for any bed lasting more than a year since that's the lifespan of most of my dogs beds due to all the pawing they do. I add a tiny bit of bleach when I fill it up to prevent mold from forming, it is a water bed after all.... I also love that it is so easy to wipe these down to clean them if you need to. My dogs has had diarrhea and vomited all over these beds and yep I never had to get rid of them since they clean really well for me and didn't even stain. My cat had behavioral issues when I first got him and he peed all over these beds, and for those who have cats you know how horrible cat urine can be, yet I was able to clean it and get rid of the smell. You can fill it up as much or as little as you want. I add a bit more water so its more cushiony for my pups. Downside is that it is VERY heavy when you fill it up with water (especially the large one), so I recommend you to fill it up where you intend on keeping the beds- also prob why I just threw these beds out when it came time to moving. The small bed you can def fill it up and not have too much trouble moving it around. In addition to having one for my rabbit, I had the small ones lined in the back seat of my car during the summer months for my pups during road trips. Overall I love these beds, I will continue to buy them as long as I have pets. Yes they're heavy and annoying, but they do what they're intended to do and they last forever. I've tried a ton of cooling beds when I was searching them for my collie when he was still a puppy and as soon as I found this product years ago, I will stay loyal to it, bc honestly you def won't find another cooling bed that works as well as this. I am not being compensated for this review, just wanted to share my experience after using it and buying it for so many years.

Excellent Product, Highly Recommended.
I was concerned based on some of the reviews that it wouldn't be durable, but it's held up well in the year since I purchased it. My dog loves to dig a little nest before lying down and he sometimes starts digging in the Cool Bed before I can stop him. It's survived this and everything else without any leaks. It is a nice refuge from the heat for my dog who is getting up in years.Update: I've had this bed for two very hot summers now. I've updgraded my review from four to five stars now. It is an excellent product. Very durable. My dog has destroyed a mattress and several blankets with his digging, but the cool bed is unscathed. I've tested it out on very hot days and even through my clothes I can feel almost cold lying on the bed. When it's hot, my dog is on the cool bed. This is a great purchase!p.s. I'm absolutely stumped over the fact that this product has only 50% five-star reviews. deserves at least 80 or 90.

AMAZING. Wish it lasted longer.
Got this for my Labrador’s crate since he has trouble sleeping when it’s too hot. Absolutely amazing and worked wonders. He loved it. Kept him nice and cool during the hot summer and he always looked forward to taking breaks and sleeping in his crate. Easy to assemble. -1 star because after 4 months I noticed very tiny drops of water pooling in a few areas of the bed. He doesn’t wear a collar in his crate and he has short nails. Tried to fix the holes myself and it worked for a while. I read many reviews that the bed lasted multiple summers so was a bit bummed. I will buy again next summer for sure because my dog and I were both happy with it.

Works well!
This is the third cool bed I purchased! It works well, easy to fill up with water. It stays cool, but not on direct sunlight. It's a bit flat and not cushiony. Small ones are easy to move around, but the big ones get really heavy to move, and not advisable to move around. My dogs loved chewing and pulling off the cap, that's the only problem I encountered. Gotten very affordable as compared 20 years ago.

Only cool when ambient temperature is cool
My dog loves laying on the cool tile, so I was hoping he would love this as well.It was very easy to fill up. I don't have a funnel or a hose or anything like that, so I just used my electric kettle which has volume markings and a spout. Just be careful not to spill. The plug has to be pushed back in to close, which wasn't easy to do without forcing some water out and onto the ground. When I first filled it up with cold water, it was cool to the touch. I'm not sure my dog was crazy about the waterbed feel of it, but that's not the manufacturer's fault. There is a strong plastic / chemical smell which has not dissipated even after several days.I left this outside with my dog while I went out to dinner (the temperature was about in the low 80s). I came back and the mat was completely warm to the touch. In fact, it was actually warmer than the concrete it (and my dog) were laying on.I drained and rolled the mat in the hopes of being able to return it. After several days in the dry desert air, the inner mat is still not completely dry. I'm not sure my return will be accepted, which turns this into expensive trash. If there's no way to dry out the inner mat, I imagine one must constantly be emptying & refilling this with fresh water to prevent mold growth, and there would be no way to store this for any extended period of time (say, for example, in the winter). It is very heavy when full and you're not supposed to carry it vertically, so I imagine having to move it in order to drain and refill it frequently would be a pain. This would only be useful if you intend to use it indoors with the A/C on, year-round, and have somewhere you can conveniently drain it frequently.

Does the job, but it's HUGE PAIN in the butt!
PRO: Does a good job cooling your pet, even in sub-optimal conditions. This past summer was awful, and our house does not have air conditioning. Our poor 100-lb pup was sweating terribly in her crate, even with fans on. We bought this cooling mat for her crate. First: the mat is supposed to lay on a cool surface, like a tile or concrete floor so that it may transmit the cool to the mat and to the dog's body. This went in her crate, which was on a carpeted floor, so not an optimal situation. However, it still did a good job of keeping her cool.CONS: Make sure it's exactly where you want it to STAY after filling it. Filling it is a little awkward and it's helpful to have two people: one to hold up the opening, the other to fill with water. I found a garden watering can useful.Don't move it after it's filled! Don't even try!! The inside squishy foam will move around inside the bag, bunch up, and you'll never get it back in place ever again. It will not do its job that way. When you want to empty the the bed (to store it for winter), it will be full of 3-6 gallons of water and VERY heavy. You're supposed to roll the bed from the end furthest from the fill-cap, and empty the water back out the fill cap.... um, where? Unless you have this bed outside already, you will have to move it to a shower/tub/outdoors where you can empty those 3-6 gallons of water. It's HEAVY and AWKWARD and a pain in the butt! And that squishy inside foam WILL move around and bunch up. I spent another 30 minutes once the water was empty, shaking it this way and that, trying to re-arrange the inside foam back into position. Also, I won't store it rolled up because the inside foam is still quite wet, and will simply moulder over the winter inside the rubber bag. So, I had to find a place it could be stored flat and open. Thus 3 stars: the cooling bed does a good job cooling your pet, but it's a major pain in the butt to work with.

Great bed for my goldens and shepherd!
I've had three of these beds so far for for 2 different golden retrievers and a shepherd. I don't have air conditioning in the house, so I had to find a way keep them cool, and these work well. Even with a run of hot days (over 90), the bed stayed cool to the touch. The one time we had a heat wave and the bed was a little warm, I put it in an air conditioned room for an hour and it was cold again! Remember, a dog's body temperature is normally about 101, so even if the bed was 80 degrees, the dog would be more comfortable. For the large bed, you add about 7 gallons of water and you get a nice, cushy surface. I never had to change the water, even in the bed that lasted 3 years. NOTE: this is not the best bed for a dog that chews or one that uses it as a launch pad to get to your bed (it still lasted a year as a launch pad). There is a 2 year warranty, as long as you or your dog doesn't abuse the bed, but 2 out of 3 beds lasted over 2 years. (the third still lasted a year, even with the abuse, and the shepherd learned not to jump on my bed!) Be careful when moving the bed, if you don't roll it up you can ruin the bed, as the material inside bunches up and it's really hard to smooth out again.

Great, until it started leaking...
This bed definitely works as advertised! Our older retriever mix is always hot and always panting, so we thought this bed would be a home run. We were right! She loved it immediately, and she sleeps on it all the time. It immediately put a stop to the incessant panting! (And she doesn't have to share- our chocolate lab who loves to be warm won't touch the thing!) Unfortunately after about 8 months of ownership we noticed it was leaking a little bit at one of the corners. We thought maybe she had just "flopped" down on it extra hard and I think were in denial since we knew she loved the bed so much. Well sadly, it was beginning of the end, because now 10 months into our purchase it is leaking like crazy and we will obviously have to get rid of it. How disappointing!!! We all love this bed (customer satisfaction with delivering what is promised? five stars!) but clearly can't have something that is leaking all over our carpet (product quality? one star.). I should also note that neither of our dogs are destructive- so this is NOT the result of chewing, digging or any other bad behavior. She sleeps on this thing like a good pup and with normal wear and tear, it started leaking. So sad, because 6 months ago, this would have been 5 stars all the way!! If this bed is going on a cement patio or garage then go for it, it's a slow leak and your dog would be happy. But if it's going inside- it's not worth the risk.

Dog loves it
My dog loves this bed, uses it all year. This is the 3rd one I had to get in 2 years tho as the seams split. Will probably continue to replace it as needed just because she loves it so much.

A valiant product, great with dogs...and 4 y.o. boys
I bought my 4th small size Cool Bed this week. The first one was purchased in 2007 for my Border Collie who was prone to heat strokes and who had to travel long distances in my AC less Echo to go to Agility Trials and Flyball tournaments. It worked so well that my husband bought 2 for his dogs. Unfortunately, all 3 were left on the roof of the truck one night and ended up run over by tractor trailers for a whole night. We found them on the side of the road the morning after. Only one survived, despite being slightly damaged. It's now 12 years old and starting to delaminate. It's the one that you see in this picture, in a flowered pillow case, under a teddy bear :) This is my 4 y.o. boy's bed. It's narrower than a twin size. Our youngest boy has a very light sleep and the heat really bothers him. We were contemplating just going for it and installing the AC in our house... When I thought about our valiant CoolBed... So we tried it: when Nico is hot, he lays on the cool bed. When he is cool enough, he lays on the other half of his bed. Works like a charm, he sleeps through the night. Yay! But as I was saying, the CoolBed is now starting to die... And even though there is a pad under the bedsheet in case of "accidents", we wanted a new one.Now be aware, these are not for puppies or dog with anxiety issues who could chew or scratch the bed. It won't survive. But with dogs who understand a bed's purpose, it's awesome. Fill it with water and the remove the excess air with the valve until water want to come out and that's it. I regularly change the pillow case, and clean the outside of the cool bed with soapy water now and then. Another tip... You don't need a huge cool bed for your dog. 17"x24" was perfect for Border Collies... And it fits in a pillow case :)
