Amazing quality!
This movie is amazing. I remember watching it in the movie theater when I was young and it absolutely blew me away. I was so scared for months that the Candyman was going to get me. I had to sleep with the lights on.The picture quality of this Blu-ray is excellent. You can see every little tiny detail. It's just like I remember it in the theater. Compared to previous releases the quality is way better on this one. It no longer looks like a copy from a VHS tape. I've noticed things I never noticed before. Everything looks so crisp and clear. The sound quality is excellent. I love the haunting music of this movie so much. I will often listen to this playing in the background just to hear all the beautiful music and this Blu-ray does it justice. Not just in the music but also all of the sound effects. If you like having the volume of this will scare you with all the jump scares.I remember this story being based off an urban legend which always scared me when I was little. They have changed it somewhat to fit the movie but the man with the hook for a hand has many different variations in folklore and they do the story justice in this movie. It's so frightening what happens to the poor main character in the end. I won't give it away but that scene will always haunt me.If you enjoy scary movies you should definitely check this out. It looks and sounds beautiful on this Blu-ray and is definitely a classic. If you enjoy this movie I'd highly recommend the remake as well as it was surprisingly disturbing and scary and has an atmosphere all it's own.I would definitely suggest if you get scared easy to watch it with a friend. Turn the lights off, turn the volume up and enjoy a masterpiece in high definition. You won't regret it.

A classic movie gets an excellent release from Scream Factory
I can still remember seeing this in the theater on the Tuesday following its release. It was a chilly afternoon, and the theater was empty except for me. I was completely riveted by what I saw. Afterwards, I looked in the mirror of the bathroom and tried to say "Candyman" five times. I couldn't do it. Still can't!Thanks to Scream Factory for giving this horror classic the love it deserves. (The uncut version is a waste of time, but it's nice to have it.)

Miracle at Cabrini-Green
Once again, Shout! Factory has provided an excellent release of an excellent film. As of the time that I'm writing this, I have not yet watched all of the special features on the two Blu-Ray discs contained in this release because there's just so many of them! I got this release with a gift card I received for my birthday. The most interesting thing, I think, about this release is that it contains two cuts of the movie, each one being ninety-nine minutes long. I've watched both cuts of "Candyman," now and for the life of me I cannot tell the difference between the two. A keener eye than mine might be able to tell you what the exact difference is, but I cannot. There are a TON of special features on both discs, though. If you don't know what "Candyman" is, it's a rather thoughtful examination at social class in the United States cleverly disguised as a slasher film. But at its heart, "Candyman" is about a miracle happening at the old Cabrini-Green housing project in Chicago, Illinois, but it takes the entire movie to build up to the miracle. The movie was shot on location at Cabrini-Green, which is almost unthinkable today. The filmmakers made an agreement with the local gang that in exchange for cooperation in filming the movie there, the gang members would get to be in the movie. They also provided security, at least according to one story I read. "Candyman" is a visually stunning movie that captures the urban decay of the old high rises and puts it on film breathtakingly. It really captures 'how the other half lives' rather well. The movie is, on the surface, a slasher about a grad student, played by Virginia Madsen, doing a thesis on urban legends. She doubts the existence of a mythical figure reportedly haunting the Cabrini-Green housing projects dubbed "Candyman" by its residents and through this doubt summons him and he just makes her life a living hell by framing her for his own crimes. You really have to watch this movie with an open mind to understand and fully grasp what it's really about. Even Roger Ebert, who didn't really like horror movies, said that there's a good movie beneath the surface, here. It's based on a short story by Clive Barker, who also wrote the story that "Hellraiser" is based on. There's some Catholic imagery in the film, which is pretty much a standard when it comes to Clive Barker. And where Clive Barker's story takes place at a housing project in Liverpool, England, the movie version takes place in a housing project in Chicago, Illinois because the film's producers saw the parallels and thought "what if we set it at Cabrini-Green?" An insane idea on paper but it somehow worked! The movie looks absolutely fantastic on Blu-Ray and is a 2K restoration, which, as I've said, is packed with special features, not all of which I've even gotten the chance to take in, yet. The two sequels to this movie are pretty much garbage, so I can't recommend them. But if you like horror that makes you think, check this one out!

Candyman (by Scream Factory)
Great restoration of this in my opinion highly underrated phychological horror mixed with social drama about the urban legend of Candyman, superb acting by Tony Todd and also by Virginia Madsen and the rest of the cast. Contains great direction, cinematography an the music is outstanding. I like all the extra's, and of course two versions which doesn't make a great difference between the movies, only in two scenes it shows a little more gore effects. Scream Factory seem to never dissappoint me with these underrated and sometimes forgotten gems.Highly recommended to all horror fans!

Good
Extremely clear picture and surround is excellent on only the unrated/directors cut whereas its pretty grainey on the theatrical cut. Audio is high pitched on both. Also I was unable to tell the difference between the cuts, as even the run times are identical. According to Google, the difference is in only one scene via a different angle. Not sure this is worth a second disc, but it makes a great gift anyway.

"Be my victim!"

Who Doesn't Love Candy?
A very underrated horror film from the early 1990s. Doesn't rely on special effects to get it's scare or tension. Scream Factory also done a great job at this new transfer and special features.

Candyman! Candyman! Candyman! Candyman! Candyman!
This film follows a legendry horror figure called Candyman, which appears to be something that is made up for a novel. This scream factory release has got quite a few new special features on it as well as stuff they have released previously on older DVD editions. In the film it states if someone says his name five times he appears. This film is a bit like the Nightmare on elm street horror character.
