Product Description A retha is the album by legendary soul diva Aretha Franklin, originally released in 1986, on Arista Records. This is the third album with this title to be released by the artist. The album, again produced mainly by Narada Michael Walden, included Aretha s first No#1 Pop single since Respect in 1967 with the vibrant I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) ,a duet with George Michael.Aretha also yielded three other hit singles: Jimmy Lee , Rock-A-Lott and a hard rock cover of The Rolling Stones classic, Jumpin Jack Flash . All music videos were extremely popular on MTV, BET and other video outlets.Following on from Aretha s first-ever Platinum record, Who s Zoomin Who?, Aretha was quickly certified Gold after only several weeks. Before going out of print, the album had sold approximately 900,000 copies in the United States alone.Franklin s vocal from Rock-A-Lott was sampled extensively in the 49ers 1990 hit Touch Me , while her version of Jumpin Jack Flash was the title song for the film comedy starring Whoopi Goldberg. All four of the singles were shot as music videos that received extensive play. The album is noteworthy for the striking cover, which was Andy Warhol s final work before his death in early 1987.Don t be one to miss out. Treat yourself to Aretha: her most energized release for Arista to date. One of her best Album..Deserved better treatment.
Very good to have this album remasterd and expanded. Sounds great. In my opinion it is one of the best of Aretha and of course considering the special extras it brings with it....such as the cover designed by Andy Warhol and the great production work Narada Michael Walden did or the support of George Michael and Larry Graham in great duets. There is a mistake in the order of songs, not a big thing. Disc 2 on paper starts with "An angel cries" and when playing the cd actually is "If you need my love tonight" . Not a big change anyway. One very good plus is the inclussion of an Aretha Megamix of 7 minutes of the best songs from her previous album.A big downside is the poor information included. No lyrics (which were included in the original Vinyl and Cd versions), no special details such as the great cover work done by Andy Warhol, one of the last ones he made before passing. A dissapointment if we consider other reissues of great quality from smaller profile artists such as The Tabu catalogue: SOS Band or Alexander Oneal or most notably what has been done with Donna Summer 80's catalogue via Driven by Music(superb). We are buying music...but is clear we look for "special re-issues" if not we could easily go and buy the (cheaper) digital version. Aretha...recomendable anyway.

A great 80s Classic from the queen of soul.
Incredible album regardless, I just feel more of an effort could have gone into the presentation as it lacks the quality of some other reissues.
