A Grand Prize Award winner at the International Cannes Film Festival and a heartwarming film, "Marcelino Pan y Vino," is about a little orphan boy who causes a miracle. Left on the doorstep of a monastery as an infant, Marcelino was raised by the Monks. He was well cared for but lonely and missed having a mother. One day he found a special friend in the forbidden attic... hanging on a cross. A friend that would repay Marcelino's kindness by granting him one heart-felt wish.

Miracle of Marcellino
This is a classic, mid-1950's movie that came out with a whole score of other Catholic religion or Vatican/Rome themes. Some of them were "Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), "The Nun's Story " (1958), "When in Rome" with Van Johnson and Paul Douglas (1953), "The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima", with Gilbert Roland (1954), "Roman Holiday" with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn (1954), and lastly "Rome Adventure", with Suzanne Pleshette and Troy Donahue (1961).I loved this movie for it's touching depiction of the innocence and love of a little child for his Mother who is deceased). It is also a story of Faith. This movie (and all I mentioned) were made before the time of Vatican II in the Catholic Church, when all the beautiful religious traditions of the Catholic Church depicted and seen in so many of these movies was downplayed or overtly ridiculed and rejected. These movies were of a time when the Catholic Church was strong and flourishing, before there were all the terrible scandals of priest sexual abuse, radical dissident USA nuns, or Popes who spent their time traveling instead of working. It was the time of Pope Pius XII, who many regarded as a true saint even in his lifetime, and still today. If people like stories of the simple faith of monks raising a little boy who could touch the heart of God, then I suggest this classic video.(As an aside, in 1955 Pius XII actually received the little boy who played Marcellino in private audience in the Vatican, blessed him and the movie. The child actor's name was Pablito Calvo, who sadly died about 15 years ago at about 52. He was well known in his native Spain as a child actor.

Movie favorite I watched as a child
I'm so glad they have this available on DVD! We'd watch it as a family on VHS and it was one of my favorites. You see the little orphan grow as little boys do and how he encounters Jesus in such a wholesome way. I like that it's available in both Spanish and English so my family could all enjoy. Highly recommend!

Gorgeous film
Made in 1954, this film is a masterpiece that sticks in your memory forever. The sweet innocence of the protagonist, a six year old boy, will win you over. The cinematography is wonderful, and the actors were perfectly cast, especially the young boy. This is one of the best foreign films ever made. See it!

Very special, perhaps even annointed.
Especially if you are a Christian, this wonderful family classic from Spain will probably have your tears dripping or even flowing and your faith touched very deeply. Yes, big tough guy who never cries, that includes you! I believe this film to be very special, perhaps even annointed. The English soundtrack added with the original soundtrack in Spanish and subtitles are very well done and helpful to people like me who are not very fluent at all in classic Spanish. I recommend it very highly. P. S. to big, tough guys: You can still keep your "Man Card" intact. She will probably think you are callous or heartless, if you do not shed any tears. It will be okay. Trust me. She (and you) will probably want a big hug by the time you see, "Fin."

I had watched this movie on TV as a child around the later 1950s (which wasn't yesterday for sure ! ) and years later it was stuck in my mind, so after a few decades I finally have re-watched it ( and I should point out I am an atheist so I look at it as pure fiction) but it was still a great movie and I will no doubt repeat viewings of it over the years. .

The title of the movie
This movie would have to be one of the most endearing and beautiful movies I have ever seen. I would certainly rate this one in my top ten movies. A must see film for all the family. It certainly left me with a warm glow. Innocently beautiful. I'm looking forward to watching this movie again. Highly recommended viewing.
