I have an electric stove and make them great on mine! Just make sure to slowly turn the heat down as you go.

Q: Is this uncharted cast iron or is it aluminum with a black coating? The teriyaki pan I ordered previously and returned was painted with a black paint.

Kim Y is wrong. This is definitely made out of aluminum with a non-stick coating. It is too light for cast iron and magnets are not attracted to this takoyaki pan. I bought it after reading Kim Y's response and I am disappointed after I received the item. However, I used it once so far and it is easy to use and clean up.

According to the product packaging, this Takoyaki grill is made in China, and sold by Iwatani (a Japanese company). The diameter of the holes are 4cm which is the preferred Takoyaki size according to https://nisshin.okotako.jp/how to/taco/. Another site (www.kk-take.co.jp/sub15.htm) mentions 38mm diameter as standard, and 45mm as jumbo. So...to answer your question, I'd say this Takoyaki grill has standard size holes.
