Is there a dell server compatibility list available for this? would like to know if this would run in a dell poweredge r420

I never found a compatibility list but you will need to have the capability in the R410 bios/settings to manually configure the PCIe slot from x16 to x4x4x4x4 for it to work. I have that capability in my R730 however I still ran into a compatibility issue. The compatibility issue had nothing to do with the functionality rather the system did not recognize it as a 'Dell installed component' and therefore cased the main chassis fan speed to default to a constant speed of I'm guessing 60-70% max which was ridiculesly load. I found explanations work arounds by doing simple online searches and even some information on Dell's knowledge base but opted to go with SAS SSD's instead of the hassle. Again this was all on a R730 so I would see if the R410 has the same deterrent for using 'non-Dell' stalled devices and of course check the BIOS for PCIe slot provisioning (i.e. x16 to x4x4x4x4. Will this work in a non-dell computer?

It should work in any machine that supports PCIe bifurcation. This turns your x16 slot into 4 x4 logical slots. That's how this card can connect 4 NVMe cards without using a PCIe switch chip. I'm using it with a Supermicro X11SPM-TF motherboard and it works fine.

could this work on a Mac pro 5,1

No sure, I have only used it in a Dell workstation PC.
