The Best Publications for Jazz Guitar
I have been playing guitar for many years and did attend Berklee many years ago.Over the years I have also gone through the many different popular jazz guitar method books. The pass year I have been Looking for some decent Jazz guitar publications as refresher courses and to upgrade my skills.I firmly believe Garrison Fewell's Berklee Publications(Melodic and Harmonic Approach) are the best Publications on the market for Jazz Guitar. I would look no further. If your an Intermediate/Advance player I believe you can do yourself great justice by using Fewell's Melodic Approach and Harmonic Approach as your Main Books of study (Melodic approached should be used or purchased before Harmonic Approach). Be patient and these books will provide you with the skills, knowledge, fingerings, and understanding to play Jazz Guitar solos and Jazz Standards. These books are written in a correct educational manner. Lessons are in logical sequence and easy to understand, with lots of practical application. Also these books are not for the beginner. Would be helpful if Student/Guitarist had some knowledge of Major and Minor Scales and their fingerings, block chords and their extensions, arpeggios, and some basic music theory(Diatonic Harmony)before attempting these books, however it may not be necessary if the student is a quick learner or has a good ear for jazz.

awesome
this book is excellent and delves into jazz harmony deeper than the usual fluff books on the subject. Garrison Fewell was a fantastic teacher. I wish I could have attended Berkley so I could've taken classes from him.

Very useful
Well presented. With a little theory knowledge you’ll find so many uses for these licks and arpeggios. Could not put it down for weeks. Sadly he is no longer with us but he knew how to teach

Outstanding Book!!!
This book is exactly what I was looking for ... GF's explanations are very clear and easy to follow. I play guitar for an actively gigging group, and after listening to my soloing for several months, I realized I needed to 'up my game' and become more harmonically interesting. If you can't study directly with Garrison Fewell, this is the next best thing.I highly recommend this book ... I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

Excellent book, excellent transaction!
I can't say enough about Garrison's books. The right amount of music theory alongside a generous helping of real-world, meat-and-potatoes simplicity to make this stuff work out on one's instrument. Ideas about phrasing and technique round this book along with it's predecessor, the Melodic Approach book.As far as the transaction, it went without a hitch. Good price, good mailing time, got exactly what I was looking for.

like it was written with a certain amount of pages ...
Book is a little redundant in that it will show the same examples re-written in difference keys. Book kind of loses focus as it goes along, like it was written with a certain amount of pages in mind. Some pro ideas but nothing you won't see in van eps or ted greene style books.

Jazz Improvisation For Guitar - a Harmonic Approach
Real stuff well presented and explained. Garrison is a great teacher who knows how to get across difficult ideas. Advanced players would be very interested in this book.

Great book for years of study
I bought this book with high expectations and I'm happy to say its meeting them. There is so much information in this book that it will take me years of study to be able to use all of it. Don't believe what some have said about it being a lick book. The licks are there as a basic illustration of the concepts being discussed but you are expected to practice the concept in more depth in all keys and to think about how it might be used in a wider variety of progressions than those presented in the book. In that regard this book is written with the serious student in mind i.e. someone who is willing to put in some work to get the best out of it.The book starts by covering the basics of using diatonic arpeggios over a single Cmaj7 chord. This is very much laying the ground work for subsequent chapters and I can't emphasise the importance of really getting to grips with this concept before moving on. So far I've spend about 3 weeks practicing this in different keys and I can't say I'm comfortable enough yet to move onto the next chapter and I think this really sums the book up: you get out of it what you're willing to put in. All in all an excellent book for those who are motivated enough to put the work in.

Superb book
Really important book one thing I would add in addition to other reviewers is the elegance of the fingering concepts this alone is worth the price of the book
