Thunderbolts* - DVD

Jake Schreier’s 2025 film “Thunderbolts*” adapts a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo based on stories in the Marvel comics of the same name and building upon events in Peyton Reed’s 2018 film, “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” Cate Shortland’s 2021 film “Black Widow,” Malcom Spellman’s 2021 Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Jonathan Igla’s 2021 Disney+ series “Hawkeye,” and Julius Onah’s 2025 film “Captain America: Brave New World.” The film stars Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Bob, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Within the story, Valentina de Fontaine is using the other main characters to clean up her connections to the O.X.E. Group in order to preserve her position as C.I.A. Director amid Congress’ efforts to impeach her. She sends Yelena, U.S. Agent, Taskmaster, and Ghost on a mission in which they each think they’re preserving data from the other only to realize she intends to eliminate them all as well as the facility where she sent them. In the process of discovering this double-cross, the team also finds Bob, a mysterious man whose touch gives them psychic visions of the worst moments of their lives. They soon learn that Bob is the result of Project Sentry, Valentina and O.X.E. Group’s efforts to create their own superhero. Unfortunately, Bob’s traumatic background brings unforeseen complications. Bucky, now a Congressman in his own right, seeks the renegade group as evidence of Valentina’s corruption but finds himself joining them and Red Guardian to thwart the fallout of O.X.E. The team ironically takes their name from the soccer team that Yelena played on as the child of double-agents in the 1980s, but soon realizes that their weaknesses give them insights that surpass what a typical team might find in a crisis. This Steelbook is a great way to add the film to fans’ home movie collections and includes Blu-Ray, 4K, and digital copies of the film. Bonus features include “Around the World and Back Again” – a look at the global scale of the story – “Assembling a Team to Remember” – about the cast and their backgrounds – “All About Bob” – a look at the newest MCU character – a gag reel, deleted scenes, and audio commentary from director Jake Schreier. A great addition to Marvel fans’ collections!

Marvel has really been blowing up these days on movies and this is the first movie they’ve made in a long time that I really truly enjoyed and felt like they outdid themselves. Really depthful themes, as well as a good plot.

The best Marvel film in a very long time. Fast paced, enjoyable, with characters we actually care about, good performances and a script that lets the actors do some real acting, this is well worth the watch. It's not the best Marvel film ever, but (as I've said already) it's the best one we've seen a very long time and is very entertaining. Hopefully, this is the start of a new trend. In it, a group of lower level superheroes are betrayed and join together to even up the score against their betrayer. Getting revenge with a streak of humor isn't the usual Marvel superhero formula, but that's part of what makes this movie different, and great characters played to the hilt by the talented cast is the icing on the cake that makes it all work so exceptionally well. The 4K Blu-ray has very good picture and sound quality and this disc comes highly recommended.

Absolutely best Marvel Movie ever! The story and the acting are all top notch! This movie actually has a purpose other than advancing the so-called "Multiverse" storyline. It is a standalone movie that any Marvel fan will LOVE!!!

I loved this movie. Great dvd. Fast service.

Fun, exciting, touching, funny, interesting, inside jokes while being accessible. I found Thunderbolts a great re-affirmation that there are still some good superhero movies out there. The last few Marvels movies have had niche appeal and I was apparently outside the niche. This one made me laugh. I went in pretty blind with no spoilers and the reveal of the big bad (and the big good) delighted me. I remember that plot line from the comics and had the equal excitement back then.

Definitely a better movie than most people would tell you in giving the main group a good team dynamic and backstories.
