OmniPage is the best OCR software out there.
Works well and makes record keeping a breeze. The user interface is easy to learn and makes for an enjoyable experience. You should reference YouTube video tutorials for increase knowledge of the program.

Works when used properly!
I have been using OmniPage for years and it has always worked well for me. Maybe I have just been lucky, but I think that maybe some of the users are not using the program properly. Or perhaps the competition is just trying to write bad reviews. Either way, I have offered some advice below that may help. When using the program, it is always best to scan directly to file and then import the file into OmniPage. I have found that when I output the text to Microsoft Word, it looks very good. But if you are saving as a rich text document or a PDF file, it cannot retain the formatting as well as Microsoft Word can. Word can accommodate complex formats much better than many other document applications. The user manual is in a PDF file on the disc; looking over this manual may also provide some useful tips.
