So glad I purchased
Amazing book by Caroline... updated to show Rebel Heart, too. Brilliant photos and lots of information for the biggest M fans. I'm picky about M books, but Album by Album is a new favorite!!A must have for the true, hardcore M aficionado.

Nice book- lots of great pictures!
Wonderful book! Great pictures and everything up to date except for her new Madame X album. Got one for myself and one for my good friend- we have loved Madonna since the 80’s!

Well written, Nostalgic, Informative
As a lifelong fan I was impressed with some details I've never heard before. As others have mentioned not a track by track analysis but still a good overview of the production, process, and assembly of each album. The singles and most videos are analyzed in various levels of detail with a nod to the author's presumably British roots since much of the perspective is from the U.K. charts. Worldwide sales and numbers are also noted. Many details of Madonna's life at the time are included to give background on the writing process and tone of each album. A few details emerge about producers who were hired then fired, leaked album track controversies, and abondoned and bootleg tracks. Some tours are discussed in greater detail ( Who's That Girl) while others are barely mentioned ( Drowned World), this creates a less than comprehensive understanding of how each tour complements each corresponding album. The discussion on each film soundtrack tends to be less objective and more of a critique of the necessity of each album, especially Who's That Girl, and Madonna's contribution or cohesiveness( I'm Breathless). Discussion on Evita could be fleshed out further. Glaringly there are no sections specifically for any Greatest Hits or complimations. Each one are mentioned in passing but not in enough detail to include all additions of new songs. Some are covered ( Justify My Love) others are ignored ( I Want You, Rescue Me, Revolver, Spotlight, etc .) An additional chapter on these albums would have made it more complete. Others on here have complained the stock photography ( the bane of most unauthorized biographies) is sub-par but I disagree. I enjoyed many of the photographs and they complement each era, especially some the far better than usual images from various tours.Nothing groundbreaking or to most ardent fans anything brand new, but nostalgic just the same. There are a few minor details that are inaccurate ( Madonna did not win an Oscar for Evita) that will jump out at you, but overall it's very well written. I enjoyed stepping back in time ( sorry Kylie) to remember what I was doing in my life when Like a Prayer, Erotica, Ray of Light, etc.. all hit. I wish Madame X had been covered but this was written before it's release. Overall very enjoyable.

Beautiful Book But Print Is Very Small
The presentation of this book is gorgeous and the photos capture the subject in every stage of her illustrious career. I am a fan but not an obsessive super-fan so am not sure how rare many of the pics are--just that so many of them were new to my eyes. And speaking of eyes, if you are over 40, you will likely need your specs or contacts to read the text in this book. I found it VERY small and hard to read without them. That being said, the book chronicles Madonna's career by breaking it down album by album as the title says. However, I assumed the author would thoroughly dissect the albums track-by-track, which she doesn't really do. The events happening in Madonna's life are written about in relation to each album's release, but much of the music is glossed over. There is not a thorough dissection of each album. That was a disappointment, but I am still rating the book Four Stars.

Mal embalado

Very informative
Not just a reference book for the Madonna fan, but overall just a good solid read as well. It has personal viewpoints and perspectives from Madonna herself, as well as her collaborators, on thought process (ideas, attitudes, and creativity) from when she worked each individual project (i.e., each record). It does not have a "singles" chronology ..so this book omits talking about hits like "Rescue Me", "Beautiful Stranger", and "Supernatural" (a lesser known tune recorded by the Queen of Pop). Nothing on her anthology albums neither, but a few references are made to them. Updated to 2015's "Rebel Heart" album, but now there's 2019's Madame X. Guess they'll have to print a revised edition...!
