Hurricane Lantern 15-inch (Uses Lamp Oil or Kerosene) by Kerosene Lantern

We liking sitting outside on our patio, but candles always blow out from the wind. This does the trick. It looks really nice, but keep in mind that it's not "sturdy" or "solid"....it's lightweight, made from thin materials.I've had to fix the top of mine, as others have mentioned in the review. The top is held with four small little metal tabs. Just straighten the tabs with pliers, pull of the top, put it back on nice and straight, and bend the tabs back down. It's a very easy fix.And then it's time to enjoy! Everything is functional - not just for show. You can lift and lower the glass with a lever, adjust the height of the wick with a knob, and fill the reservoir with candle oil.And the most important part - wind won't blow out the flame because of the protective glass. It's a winner!

Its an attractive lantern, making a nice piece for the mantle, but if you want to use it, its very functional as well. The metal used is very thin but that makes it lightweight. It burns with a nice flame, lights easily, and has a large oil reservoir that holds almost 30oz of oil.No complaints at this price.

the lantern would not open, necessary to light same. very cheap and tinny. retuned for credit, no replacements available, why not?

We got this in case lights go out, We felt safer then candles. To use outdoors this summer. Love it.

This is a really nice lamp and well constructed. Naturally it won't give the same amount of light as one with a heated mantle, but then again it is less than half the price of the mantle type lanterns and you can always place a small mirror behind it to redirect wasted lumen s. I love the antique brass look and fuel is readily available several places in town.My children love to be told stories by lantern light.It can also add a romantic touch to just about any environment. Definitely recommended.

I was Looking to add more durable, functional, and attractive lanterns to my back deck to replace some novelty lanterns I purchased in the garden center of a store. These look great and the reviews led me to believe they were of good quality. Unfortunately they are not. Although very attractive they are light weight and fragile. They construction is minimal with bent metal tabs holding pieces together. The wick housing came loose while I was trying to light it because the lightweight tabs allowed the housing to twist. I had to figure out how to get it back together but it is barely holding. Access to the wick is very difficult as not enough space is created in the lighting position. I could barely get a stick match in there. Bottom line is for what they cost ( these were one of the more expensive choices) they are not a good value.

I'd give it 4, maybe even 5 stars, but when I took it from the box, I noticed that the two stands rising from the base were equally bent off to one side slightly thereby preventing the glass from lifting properly. So it only gets three stars for being "damaged" upon arrival. I don't know where the problem originated, the packaging I received wasn't damaged at all so it may be a quality control issue at some plant in China.My plan was to straighten it up and if the spot welds came loose, I'd just send it back. Fortunately, the welds held firmly and I was able to salvage the order with minimal effort.I bought this as mood lighting and for power outages up at our place in the Sierras where we lose power a lot when heavy snows come in. It's not a high-end piece, but it functions as intended with very little sooting while using a good, pure lamp oil. It uses a standard 3/4" wick. For the price, I'd probably buy another one if I needed it.

I was really surprise to find that this lantern was as nice as it is and larger then the ones at the store. The seller also packed them up really good so they wouldn’t break when shipped. Love them
