Not sure about suggested age... 8 months to seven years? was considering for my almost nine and almost 11 year old. is this too old for this bolt?

8 months-7 Years is too young. Depending on how responsible your kid is, age 8-100000 is what I would suggest.

Will this sphero work on carpet?

Yes, the sphero bolt works on carpet. However it works better on wood and travels more distance for the same program. My daughter added a video to show the difference. check it out: https://youtu.be/ga4tAH9OPBc

Can this sphero also be driven manually using a phone or tablet? the mini has this feature and was hoping to find it on the more advanced models. thx

Acheté pour initier mon gamin de 11 ans à la programmation, la boule robotique remplit le job !! Pour de la programmation est peu plus poussée, il est possible de programmer en Javascript. La Sphero Bolt est arrivée nickel, aucun problème de connexion Bluetooth avec un smartphone. Bref, un super outil ludique .
