LUNAR REMASTERED COLLECTION is a must buy!
This is a most excellent remaster of two classic role playing games from the 90s. Everything that a fan of retro games could want is here. LUNAR REMASTERED COLLECTION is beautifully presented, and it’s all available for a surprisingly low price. What you get here are two epic RPGs; LUNAR SILVER STAR STORY and LUNAR 2 ETERNAL BLUE. Both games are presented in either HD Remastered form, or in their original format from the PlayStation One. The original games came out on the SEGA CD back in 1993, and 1995. But the PlayStation releases is where these games really shined. This new remaster is based on the PS One versions of the games. Both games look positively beautiful on the Nintendo Switch. In “docked” mode, we get wonderful topdown views of fantastic pixel art. Playing in handheld mode, these games are simply stunning. The graphics look very smooth in 720p without the need of any kind of filter. Everything is crisp, and clear, which is very good for the dialogue boxes as the story unfolds. The anime cutscenes are incredible, as is the music that accompany them. While the voices have all been re-recorded, the singing seems to be exactly as it was on the PS One release. If anyone knows, the animation and the music was given the 5-star treatment of a Disney, or Studio Ghibli film when these games came out. Everything is preserved with the highest level of quality intact. For those that played these games on SEGA CD or PlayStation One, it might throw you off a bit to hear the voices are not the original actors. However, the new voices are extremely well acted and it sounds like the same level of care from the old versions was taken in this update, so you are getting top quality. If I didn’t already know better, it would not surprise me if someone told me these were brand new Nintendo Switch RPGs. They look tailor made for the Switch and are well worth the price. LUNAR REMASTERED COLLECTION is a top notch release. Any fan of role playing games owes it to themselves to get this title. Whether you are new to the series, or you are returning to LUNAR, this is a can’t miss. For RPG fans, for anime fans, for classic game fans, this one is highly recommended!*Edit 5/2/2025* Please forgive my initial statement of this collection being offered at a “surprisingly low price.” I was, of course, referring to the MSRP on launch day, and considering the digital release. Since April 18th, 2025, if you are lucky enough to find a physical release, it seems that the asking price has been hiked substantially. Lunar Remastered Collection has become difficult to find, so take that into consideration. That being said, as a collector’s piece, this title is highly sought after. Expect it to be worth a great deal in the future, just as the PlayStation One and SEGA CD versions are very valuable today. Does that justify the higher asking price? In my opinion, as a collector, I would say so. There’s a reason these games are always worth a great deal. Lunar is more than a great couple of games. Lunar is special. Games like these two come along so seldom. No matter how you do it, find a way to play them. They are truly wonderful.

Good voice acting, great adventure
I played this when it originally released on PS1 as Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, when Working Designs localized it. I absolutely loved the charm and animated sequences and the overarching Game Arts quality story and cheesy themes of love and joy and adventure. I'm so glad that Gung Ho was able to work out the copyright issues with this and release not only Silver Star Story, but also the sequel Eternal Blue on one physical cartridge for the Switch. If you like retro JRPGs, this is one of the highest quality, and an invaluable addition to any RPG collection.

Two of the best ever RPGs, in excellent form
This collection of two classic RPGs beautifully upscales the cutscenes, improves inventory management, and adds the ability to speed up battles. These games have otherwise held up perfectly, and played back to back provide an excellent ramp-up in challenge and two unique narratives. The writing is still fun and lively in a way that even modern, polished translations can’t match, the characters are all unique and memorable, and the music is still is as catchy as ever. It’s disappointing the original voice overs weren’t used, though for the most part the new cast does an excellent job, so new players won’t find much to take issue with. Still, it would’ve been nice if GungHo had cooperated with Working Designs to give the option of selecting the original voices, and provide all the extras and behind the scenes included in the original versions. But those are minor complaints and no reason to pass up the on these incredible games. For me, the Lunar series has always been the gaming equivalent of comfort food or rainy day films - they’re always wonderful to return to when you need an escape to a magical and exciting world. I hope this collection helps bring Lunar to new audiences, as they’re really quite special games.

Great game remake, but it has new voice actors.
Good remake of the classic ps1 game. Improved features include a better battle AI system and fast forward options for battle timer. Only downside is the used new voice actors and rerecorded all the cut scenes. Also some of the game dialog is different. Overall a great way to reexperience lunar, and way cheaper than finding a ps1 copy if you don't have one from back in the day.

A great and classic game series.
I’ve been a fan of the Lunar series since the debut during the SegaCD era. I had the SegaCD and PS1 versions for 1 & 2 in the past. It’s great to have these beloved games on Switch now so I can go portable with them.I remember being amazed by these games as a kid. I was into typical RPGs but I think Lunar was one of my first JRPGs. Lunar was definitely the first game I recall playing that mixed game and anime styled AMVs. I was blown away. The story and premise are pretty straightforward. Battles were a step above what we had at the time (early 90s gaming) since all the sprites were animated (player party and enemies) and moved around the battlefield.Admittedly, part of me was hoping for the SegaCD original Lunar 1 version to be re-released and included. Having the option for the first/original version and a remastered remake would have been pretty interesting since there are differences between the two versions. So far, this remaster has been good. I don’t think I’ll ever play the original remake versions (I’ll stick with the remasters) but it is nice having both games available in a collection. I didn’t anticipate this game’s physical copies selling like hotcakes across all the platforms. It was crazy seeing the game as the #1 selling game on Amazon the day of release for Switch, PS and Xbox. Good for this classic! To add- I must say, the $80-90 price point for the Switch version (just because “Switch tax” / “Switch 2 pricing”) is nonsense. I love the Lunar series but these games are decades old at this point. Can it be argued this is technically 2 games? Yes. And yes, remasters have a production cost, but the 202x pricing seems like gouging for these type of games…
