Simple plug and play adapter that fixes WiFi issues with a fast wired link
I picked up this WAVLINK USB-C to Ethernet adapter to give a laptop a reliable wired connection. Setup could not have been easier. I plugged it in, the driver installed automatically, and within seconds the connection was live. Speeds are exactly what I expect from a gigabit line, and the adapter stays cool in normal use. The cable segment is just long enough to give some flexibility without becoming messy on the desk. It is especially useful when streaming, downloading large files, or doing any kind of online gaming where WiFi can be inconsistent. A small note, as with most dongles, it is good to avoid putting pressure on the USB-C port while it is plugged in, but that is just normal care. If you want to stabilize a laptop or tablet connection with minimal fuss, this adapter does the job very well.

Works perfectly with my Mac Mini M2. True fiber optic speeds at last!
Until I had fiber optic installed, I had no idea that my ethernet port maxed out at 1 GB. There is no upgrade path for the 10 GB ethernet port once you buy a Mac Mini with a 1 GB port, so I bought this adapter to bring a wired connection into one of my Thunderbolt ports. It worked instantly, no driver to install. Now the speeds that I pay for are available to my Mac. Fantastic! I use two monitors, so now my main is hooked up to the remaining Thunderbolt port, and my secondary monitor is hooked to my Mac's HDMI port. Perfecto.

It’s worked pretty well for me; but I’m more hermit than expert…
I’m rather old school when it comes to networking- I don’t care much for wi-fi. Even worse; I have been “out of the loop” for a while. I was definitely skeptical about an Ethernet connection over USB of any sort. I have been very much surprised by the incredible speed increase & the “5G” port isn’t such a waste anymore (Idk why they call it 5G if the actual speed is 330mbps & that’s considered “good”). I have had to delete & totally reload my iPhone a handful of times. While it’s not a direct comparison- an HP laptop on Windows 11 took about 10 mins on GbE. A MacBook Air with similar specs & CONNECTED VIA THIS ADAPTER- it took just over 5mins. I have yet to connect the adapter via Windows; but Mac OS required nothing to get 5G (or at least achieve maximum potential). It has gotten very warm on a few occasions; but mostly works without issue. Being that my knowledge base is rather obsolete & I do a lot with my phone; I can’t comment on how well this adapter works with moderate/heavy use. I have noticed that certain pages/ privacy settings/ tasks tend to cause increases in device temp & decrease in network speed (the MacBook is relatively new, I don’t have many apps loaded, websites all function differently based on cookie settings, etc.) I have experienced (2) episodes in which this adapter got too hot to touch & the network connection dropped (both happened in the last week- which may indicate a quality/ longevity issue). Though I don’t spend even 10% of the day online; I still recommend this as improvement for just about anyone with access to a hardwired Ethernet connection; especially gamers & home offices.

5g wired lan.
Works great. In Windows 11, It will defulted to 2.5g. To get it to do 5g just do Windows Upgrade and it automatically updates to newer driver.

Cool!
This little guy is fast and sleek! Just beware, linux users: you will probably have to manually download and install the realtek network driver from wavlink's website in order to achieve up to advertised speeds. Its simple, maybe 3 or 4 prompts. Tons of info online as well for this specific process.

Junk
This 5gbps adapter worked for a total of 27 days and then died, probably due to running so hot. It reached 3gbps on a 10gbps network. I wouldn't buy it again, it burns itself out very quickly, and doesn't reach advertised speed.

Fast speeds.
Excellent device. My laptop would not download or upload faster than 1 GB. This adapet brought me up to 3.6 Gb up and down. Make sure to install drivers. Running on Windows 11.

Works, but severe upload/download imbalance on macOS — needs clearer warning for Mac users
I tested this WAVLINK 5 Gbps USB-C to RJ45 adapter on a Mac mini M4 (macOS 26), and unfortunately, it shows a serious performance issue. When running iperf3 against a local 10 GbE server, the download speed is only about 1.7 Gb/s, while the upload reaches 4.6 Gb/s — barely one-third the speed. For comparison, my older 2.5 Gb adapter on the same cable and port achieves 2.3 Gb/s download, so this “faster” model actually performs worse. After switching to a 10 Gb adapter from another brand, I was able to get around 8.5 Gb/s upload and 9.4 Gb/s download using the exact same setup, so the bottleneck clearly lies in this device or its Realtek RTL8157 chipset. The product page mentions a macOS driver, but that driver is only for older macOS versions (10 and 11). Modern macOS (like 26) recognizes it automatically, but the upload/download imbalance remains. If this is a known driver or chipset issue affecting all RTL8157-based adapters on macOS, the manufacturer really should state that clearly in the product description. It would save Mac users a lot of time and unnecessary returns.

Quality Adapter works great without needing drivers.
These work amazingly well without the need for drivers. In a pinch even worked to connect my huawei solar inverter to the network (using a USB-A male to USB-C female).
