Could you fit a whole onion into the food processor or would you need to chop it first?

An average sized shallot will chop finely. I cut large onions in half first or they will not drop down the chute on the lid.

Does the lid fit on easily or does it risk getting stuck?

The lid fits on easily and does not get stuck. You just have clock the lid in place as you would expect.

The description says only a single stainless steel cutting disc. Is this correct?

That's not quite true it ha a dual blade rotating disc and a plastic disc called an emulsifying tool and also a slicing/grating disc. |Its a really good food processor though we had a fairly new Wahl and got rid for the Kenwood which is a really good piece of kit. would thoroughly reccomend
