Not metal, a very heavy plastic. Weight is comparable to a metal one. Perfect training weapon.

Can you unscrew the blade from the handle? I see that it has screws so i was wondering if it could be separated

Considering the mold lines run uninterrupted the entire length of the "blade", up onto the "guard" and over onto the "handle", it appears the company decided to include realistic looking "screws" in the sides of the "checkered" handle, but it's a solid piece of plastic.

What is the blade made of?

It's all polypropylene. Tough and approximates a live blades weight.

It's the same Polypropylene as Cold Steel's line of practice swords, so it's a hard black rubber substance. I've only just bought this one, and it's essentially a more visually appealing version of the Cold Steel line of Katana trainers. In that same vein, you can Youtube the Cold Steel trainer video's to watch them break things with them. I've been slamming a few of them into tree's in my back yard for a good few years, and I've only broken 2 of the 10 I've got. They're tough but not unbreakable...really tough. Like, slam it against a tree for a year and you might break a small part of it off.
