Well made product
As I approached my third achilles surgery, I knew that this was a dire need. I had previously borrowed a similar Ossur model from a friend after the 2nd surgery - and boy - did I wish I had it for the 1st! I decided to purchase my own since I knew this would be a long haul. This machine is quiet and works great. There was no leaking, it was easy to use and kept the water cold for an extended period of time. The size and weight are managable for anyone to use. Very happy with this purchase and glad I have it in case any other issues pop up down the road. This is a must have for any type of knee, shoulder or ankle foot injury or surgery. Highly recommend.

Excellent before and after Total Knee Replacement surgery
This is a terrific machine for icing your knee. When you fill it, be sure to use 3-4 frozen bottles of water, floating in water. Often I also throw in some ice from my freezer's ice machine, just to make the water as cold as possible really fast. It will last at least 2-3 hours before needing to be refilled, maybe 4 hours if very slightly warmer is OK during that last hour. Even the first day home from hospital, I was able to refill it myself because 3-4 frozen bottles of water are a lot easier to carry with a plain metal hospital walker than a bag of ice would be. I have a basket for my walker so I could carry the bottles in that, but if I did not then I would just put them in a plastic grocery bag and drape it over my walker's handles. I found this machine to be nice to have even during the weeks leading up to my TKR surgery. After using it my knee was a little less swollen and therefore less painful. Now, in my second week of recovery after TKR surgery, I use it a lot and depend on it. It does a great job of icing, providing the cold my knee needs and doing so for long periods of time. You can barely hear the motor, which I appreciate because I am hooked up to this machine so much. The only negative for me, was the elastic velcro straps that attach the knee pad to your knee. The velcro was so strongly embedded into the strap itself, that it took me several weeks to get it loose so I could attach it to the knee pad. Instead of the straps, I was having to use scarfs to tie the pad to my knee until today. But to tell the truth, I would have rated it five stars even if it didn't have any straps at all, because it is such a good, reliable, effective, and easy to use machine for icing my knee.

Hip replacement
Replaced an old one that just wouldn't work after sitting idle for a couple years. Works great, easy to use with just some frozen water bottles. Getting me through my second hip replacement with less pain and disability thanks to Cold Rush.

****HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED AND ADVISE AGAINST THIS PARTICULAR MODEL/MACHINE’S USE!!!****
Just a little background, I utilize my machine for an older injury for which I still have pain. I use it every night for cryotherapy at the end of my long day to reboot my injury so I can rest pain free. I have the smaller model of this same brand that I purchased after my beloved Bregg machine’s motor went out. The smaller model worked well that I thought I would buy this one so I could fit water bottles in it instead of going through so much ice. I am a fighter fighter/ paramedic and we work 48 hour shifts, so I was going to take one machine to leave at my station, and keep one home. There is much wear and tear on a product that goes back and forth every week. When it arrived, I noticed a few things straight away. First, there would be some minor inconveniences with the handle in relation to the lid when emptying, however not a big deal at all. Secondly, I did like that the motor is on the outside instead of down the middle of the ice/water compartment. Thirdly, this model has a much longer tubing, which is nice to be able to have it out of the way and not right next to you. Fourthly, it did deliver the coldest therapy I’ve experienced. I was excited to say the least...Then, I used it... This product builds SO much condensation on the tubing from the machine to the pad, and on the pad, that I thought it was broken, and leaking in multiple places. I used it on the highest setting. It literally left puddles on my floor, soaked my bedding, and my pillow that I had the pad lying on, soaking through even the small cloth cover I fit over the pad so there’s no direct skin contact. I was completely soaked, as well!!! LUCKILY, I did not use this for a post surgical wound as the dressings would’ve been drenched. Having had multiple surgical procedures and utilizing several different systems, this is the first that has produced so much external water. I examined this device at length, observed for a couple of hours, making sure it was not leaking from a loose connection, damage, or hole somewhere. I wanted to be sure my review was accurate. To my dismay, this is a manufacturing flaw. ****I HIGHLY, HIGHLY ADVISE AGAINST USING THIS PARTICULAR MODEL FOR A POST-SURGICAL WOUND/INCISION!!**** Your dressings and wound would be soaked along with a mess to clean up. I returned the product for a refund and trying to figure out which other brand to replace it with.

Excellent - one deficiency but overall, operationally excellent
I’ve been using this ice therapy machine now for almost two weeks and I cannot recommend this product enough. I recently had knee replacement surgery and purchased the ice machine to control swelling. Thus far it has performed exactly as advertised, flawlessly. There are only two issues I’ve found you should at least be aware of. One of them is a potential hidden cost and logistical item, the other is convenience. So, the hidden cost/logistics issue. We’ve found that our refrigerator ice maker cannot keep up with the ice consumption rate. Because of it, we have to purchase a large bag of ice per day and I have two separate knee ice packs I rotate. This is why I deducted one star from the rating. The cooler is great, but keep in mind it is not an igloo or yeti.. it is not meant for cooling food... So the ice will melt over several hours or so. If your ice maker can keep up with the consumption rate, great. If not, plan on buying ice and have some backup ice packs for your knee. That is crucial. It is very important you use ice to help minimize inflammation. The convenience issue is related to where the circulation hose attaches to the pad. Currently it is at one of the ends. Since you can wear the pad in either direction on your knee, I think the manufacturer should consider moving the pad/hose connection point to the middle; being at the end, the hose coil exerts a small torque to the pad causing it to rotate until you lash down one of the Velcro straps. Although this absolutely does NOT affect functionality, it is for me a minor annoyance (but because this is a personal preference issue, I did not deduct a star for it). The ice machine works beautifully and I can DEFINITELY say that it is controlling the post-operative swelling/inflammation, making recovery just a little bit easier. It is easy and intuitive to operate. The fit is excellent and the cooler is large enough for the ice to last for hours; we’ll see about it performs in terms of long term durability, but thus far it seems to be performing quite well.

Essential Item to Help in your Recovery
My husband had a total knee replacement three + weeks ago. Post surgery, we initially naively thought that we could make do with the gel ice packs we already had on hand in the refrigerator. No way! A few days in, we ordered this machine, and it came rapidly. (Thank you, Amazon Prime!) It provided instant relief, helped with pain & swelling management, and was overall a huge improvement in the recovery process. It's worth every penny, in our estimation! The machine is unbelievably quiet and performs efficiently. We are using the knee pad. A few tips: 1) We read other reviewers' recommendations to use frozen water bottles instead of ice. This worked great for us! I missed the fact that they recommended using 8 oz water bottles, and purchased 16.9 oz bottles in error. Oops. No worries, though. I found that three of the larger bottles will fit in the unit just fine. They won't fit standing upright, but you can tip them over just a little bit and it works fine. I swap them out after several hours with replacements from the freezer. The unit is very well insulated and the water inside stays really cold. Because you are using the water bottles, you avoid the need to dump out the ice. Way better! 2) The lid is very tight, but I got used to it. No big deal. 3) Make sure that the unit is placed up high, more or less at the same level as the patient. Try to minimize kinks in the tubing. 4) We did not find that we had any condensation whatsoever on the tubing, so didn't need the CPAP covers recommended by some reviewers. 5) We intentionally never disconnected the quick connectors on the tubing so as to not risk leaks. 6) The pad itself has one sort of fuzzy side and one smooth side. The smooth side goes down against the patient, and the fuzzy side goes up, to grip the velcro strips. This wasn't immediately obvious to us and took a few minutes to figure out. The instructions do not indicate what to do here. 7) The pad and the velcro straps are well designed, but are getting worn now after a few weeks of continuous usage. It would be nice if they didn't wear out so fast. 8) If I were designing the machine, I would add a quick connect close to the unit itself so that you could take off the tubing for storage when it comes time. That would be a design improvement IMHO.

Quality - works well 1 month later - UPDATED 18 MONTHS LATER
UPDATE: I haven't used it in almost 6 months, and when I tried using it today it wouldn't turn on. I used this pretty heavily for the first 12 months with no issues, but today when I needed to use it, no luck. Given the price tag of this and coming from a solid brand like OSSUR, I was hoping it was under some sort of warranty. No luck. They only warranty for 6 months. Overall - it was a helpful machine, but I won't be buying it again, just for the fact that it broke less than 2 years after owning it, and that's with really only 1 year of semi-regular use. Pretty lame. IMO. I’ve used the game ready ready ice machine before that is far more superior. But also comes with a huge price tag. Given the price tag of this it’s an excellent machine. I got a major knee surgery Jan 30th and I’ve used this machine since then. It’s been excellent to this point. Pros: -the tubing feels really nice and hasn’t torn or fall apart like some reviews have said. -The machine has a few settings to control how much water pumps through it. -It’s relatively small so it can fit under a table when not using. -It keeps water cold for quite a while (depending on how much you use it). -The universal icing pad I bought with it works really well on my knee. Cons: -if you have a knee surgery and can’t walk, you’ll have to get someone to refill the water for you (I would assume every machine is this way) -the lid is kind of annoying to get open. It’s on REALLY tight and it doesn’t have an easy open tab or lip or something. Overall I’ve been happy with it and it’s improved my icing from the gel packs I’ve used in the past. I would definitely recommend this. PRO TIP: if you use 12 oz water bottles and freeze them, you can fit 4 in the machine and it’s a lot easier and less messy than putting in loose ice every time.

Excellent product at a cheaper price than a medical rental
We purchased this item for post-knee surgery recovery for a torn ACL and meniscus. The product was very easy to set up, got cold almost instantly, and kept ice water in it, staying cold for easily 8 hours or longer when used with their given ratios. The machine does take a LOT of ice to have such a long-lasting cold. We had our freezer just full of ice trays and ice bottles and the like to be able to run this twice a day, and frequently put less ice into the machine than suggested. However, it still worked beautifully (just for more like 4-6 hours when the ratio of ice to water wasn't has high. Advantages of this cold therapy machine over traditional cold packs were that on the body, the machine's pad was lighter and colder than traditional ice packs, and conformed to the shape of the knee better. It held its cold temperature longer. Downsides were that the tubing sweats a bit, and so we would have a damp spot on the floor after hours of use, so we learned to use towels. Also, being stuck to tubing means not getting up as easily or frequently. For these reasons, it is nice to have traditional ice packs as well, for faster and more mobile cold therapy. We also noticed that cold therapy was needed right after the surgery for some weeks, then we didn't need it as frequently for a time. Once going weight-bearing on the knee again, we were glad we hadn't rented and returned a cold therapy machine, because knee swelling returned. We now know that this was an expected part of recovery, and that a return of swelling phase can appear 6 or more weeks into recovery, making a rental a 2+ month necessity at least. (If renting, that means it would have cost $600+!) Overall, we were thrilled with how well this cold therapy machine worked, and will keel it in the family for future injuries. Compared to the $300+ per month that medical rentals run (even with insurance), this was more economical, and it's nice to know we can keep it for future use or sell it to recoup costs.
