Great part, good price.
Bought this replacement transmission gear for my 2005 987 Boxster S, drivers side convertible top transmission. Although you can buy metal replacement gears, Porsche purposely used a plastic gear as the weak link - in event of failure or misalignment, this gear is supposed to break to protect the rest of the mechanism. So I wanted a plastic (nylon) replacement. My Boxster is 18 years old, and the original gear broke probably due to old age - plastics tend to get brittle as they age. This part fit perfectly. The convertible top worked flawlessly as soon as I completed the repair. Pelican Parts has a good ‘how to’ article for this repair. You’ll need to clean the old grease from all the other parts when rebuilding the transmission, and apply new grease. This repair may seem really complicated, if it is your first time doing it, but in retrospect it was pretty easy. Expect to spend 2-4 hours the first time and be patient. Should take only half that time once you know what you’re doing. Beats paying a dealer $1-2k for this repair. Great product.

Exact fit
Installed in a 2003 Boxster S. It was an exact fit. Quieter operation than the original.

Reasonable price and fit well
You have to destroy the original gear if it is not already broke. Metal gear fits loosely in this gear. I wish the metal gear snapped in for a more positive fit. Otherwise - so far so good as the top is operating wellI wish description said which way the teeth slanting ex down to right or down to left

This is the correct part
Do not buy the metal gears! These are a perfect replacement. My convertible top is like new again. I cannot recommend these enough. The perfect part has been found.

Worked Great on 2009 Boxster
I replaced my top transmission gears before on my 2001 Boxster but I used the more expensive metal gears which worked great. I could not find the same MFG when it I need to replace them for my 2009 Boxster and the metal ones that were available appeared to be missing a "tooth" on the smaller gear and people were having issues with them. So I decided to try the plastic ones which used the original smaller metal gear insert. This job is not extremely hard but I would recommend watching videos of people who have done this successfully. You could damage your top further if you are not well prepared on how the top transmission works with the entire top mechanism. Take your time and following the top alignment instructions. I bought both the right and left gears but only the right was broken. I keep the left one since these gears are prone to break over time (plastic). I would also recommend replacing the plastic push rod ball joints ($13) since they tend to fail as well over time. Bottom-line, saved $700 if I bought a new right side transmission and installed it myself or +$1500 if I would have taken it into the shop...
