AUTO-VOX Wireless Backup Camera Solar Magnetic, 1-Min DIY Install

This is the second camera I’ve purchased from Auto-Vox for towing my camper. My previous camera worked well (and still does), but it wasn’t designed to be mounted behind a tow vehicle. As a result, I was pushing it beyond its intended use. That led to occasional buffering and compression artifacts on the display. This new model solves all of those issues—and then some. Installation is a breeze. You mount the included plate, and the camera snaps onto it magnetically. The magnets are extremely strong, but for added security, you can use the included socket head cap screw to lock it in place. There's a USB-C charging port under a waterproof cover and a simple on/off switch beside it, accessible from the bottom of the camera. I charged it once via USB at the start and haven’t needed to since. The screen is excellent and comes with a 6-foot cable that plugs into your car’s 12V socket. Once powered, it automatically wakes the camera and starts the live feed. The image has a slight fisheye effect, which actually helps by widening the field of view behind the trailer. The display allows you to adjust brightness, guide lines, image orientation, and screen timeout settings. By default, the screen is set to turn off the camera after about two minutes, but I immediately changed that to stay on continuously—I use it as a rear-view camera, not just a backup cam. The manual warns that this mode may drain the battery faster, but in my experience, that hasn’t been an issue. During my longest test—a four-hour daytime drive—the battery still showed 3 out of 4 bars. Because it’s solar-powered, it’s constantly recharging. In fact, mine even showed it was charging indoors under regular lighting. The manual claims it can operate for 45 days without solar, though that seems optimistic. Still, the next time I used it, it was fully charged and ready to go. One feature I’d like to see is an option to hardwire the camera, but Auto-Vox offers other models for that purpose. The benefit of this one is portability—if your camper goes into storage, you can remove the camera in under 30 seconds for safekeeping. In conclusion, this camera is an excellent value. It delivers a clear, stable image from the back of my trailer (40–50 feet away) to the display in my vehicle, with no noticeable interference. I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

I just purchased this setup and I'm very satisfied. I am a truck driver and I use this inside of my trailer to watch loading and unloading of freight. No wifi needed for connection and the camera is wireless. The magnet is very strong so it stays in place above my trailer doors even with a rough loader. The picture quality is great even in dark conditions. I highly recommend this camera system.

A little different from some descriptions that I had read. I thought the monitor had a battery that you charged and then it needed no other power till it need charging. Not true, needs to be plugged into a cigarette lighter or other source to power a USB interface. I also wish it had a way to black out the monitor screen short of disconnecting it from the power. You can set it to go to sleep in 2, 4, or never modes. If you disconnect from the power source, it reverts to a 4 minute sleep mode. Camera and screen work well. I thought that the camera signal would not reach the monitor due to an all steel work shell, but it works just fine. It only really attaches magnetically as the "secure bracket system " is way to complicated for general use and not very secure. I just take the camera off and put it in the cab. Picture is clear but there is some latency with the speed of the camera. Overall I am very pleased. I purchased a different monitor mount than the one the comes with. Better holding power and more adjustments.

I bought this back up camera when we got a camper to help be able to see when hooking up the camper and when backing the camper into the campsite. Installation was easy. It's works great for about 30 seconds and then it goes blank. You actually have to unplug it and plug it back in to start it again. Not helpfull when you are backing in somewhere and your camera goes blank. I contacted customer support and told them the problem and did not get a reply. I paid too much money for it to work for a short amount of time before the camera goes blank,

I got this because rear visibility in an FJ Cruiser is notoriously atrocious, particularly with and because of their crappy backup camera. This camera is outstanding, such a massive image, almost 180°. The camera magnet for slapping it anywhere on the rear of the vehicle is old-school speaker solid, it goes on with a clang (or clunk) and won't budge, and I've tried. Setup is a breeze, just plug the monitor into your cigarette lighter outlet and select the kind of view you prefer. I set it to be on all the time while driving so I can better see who is hanging off the rear corners, truly no blind spots anywhere, anymore! It uses almost no power at all, plus the solar cells on the top of the camera help out. A great buy, I'd get it again!

The magnet is strong! I was worried it would be weak and create potential issues. However, I found it so strong it almost hurt a finger. So FYI, do not put your finger in between the magnet on the camera and the metal plates. I compared it to my existing camera on my SUV and the difference is obvious. This camera and screen are clearer, and the monitor shows up much brighter. Great! This will be going on a trailer which will be parked outside so it will only be used when its time to move it around. Since it is parked outside, I do not want to leave the camera exposed to the elements when not in use, or worse have it bashed when work is being done loading/unloading trailer. So this will be great for this on again, off again use. I notice this even shows a little sun on the screen when the camera is getting a charge. Great feature.

Mounted this camera on my skid loader to give me a view while working in reverse. Picture quality is good and set up was super easy. I drilled the metal plate for a more secure mount for the camera. My issue is when in motion the camera vibrates and that gives you a vibrating image on the monitor. Also the grid zone is too wide which is not adjustable. The length of grid can be adjusted but not the distance front to back.

Great backup camera at a good price. I bought this camera for my 2012 F150 that did not have a factory camera. All you need to do is charge the camera, mount the monitor and attach the camera to your tailgate. The picture quality is the best I've ever seen. I received this came 3 weeks ago and the battery is still 100% charges (solar panel). The magnet is super strong. I like that you can adjust the camera angle without having to move the camera. Been through a few car washes and it hasn't moved. If you're parking in a place that you feel there's a possibility of some low-life stealing it all you need to do is take of the tailgate and put it in your car/truck until you return. So far so good. Highly recommended.

I was honestly a bit skeptical at first, but this backup camera blew me away. Installation was exactly as advertised—took me barely a minute to get it on my truck. No wires, no drilling, no stress. Just stuck it on, turned it on, and it worked right away. The base is really strong, and it hasn’t moved at all even after a few long drives. The 1080P monitor is super clear, even at night. I was surprised how far the signal reaches—I’ve used it on my truck and the video feed stayed stable the whole time. The solar charging is a great touch since I don’t have to worry about running out of battery. It comes with a storage bag too, which is perfect for when I want to switch vehicles or store it safely. Overall, this is easily one of the best purchases I’ve made in a while. It made backing up so much easier and safer. Highly recommend for anyone who needs a reliable, portable backup camera!!!!

Simply put- I was hopeful but not overly convinced this would work, bought as I have a large motorhome that turns like the titanic so needed some extra visibility, connected very quickly, no assembly to speak of and the magnet is strong enough to keep Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston together! Even though the roads are in the U.K. are less smooth than the surface of the moon it stayed stuck fast and with the ever so slight annoyance it does go on Stand by every 3 mins but easy to switch back on- overall- stupidly good value and delighted fo Brad and Jen!

All the 5 star comments are 100% correct. But what really matters is the after sales service when things go wrong which can happen to any electronic product. My camera developed a charging problem, Customer service (Reese) was quick to try to identify the issue. When it seemed like the problem could not be resolved a replacement was immediately dispatched. This is a company that cares about customer satisfaction which is a rarity these days. I have no hesitation in recommending this company and this product to anybody
