Works like a charm and installation was easy!
Directed Electronics 522T Trunk Release Solenoid Kit I installed this on a 1990 Nissan Skyline (R32).The installation was very easy! and it works like a charm! I didnt use some of the stuff provided in the box but if you wondering, everythin you will need to install this item is included in the box. The only thing i will say that is not in there is ur screwdriver, electrical tape and strippers/cutters.I will upload pic of the installation soon as well.My friend came by and I popped the trunk open for him and he was shocked. Press button trunk release and now we can hook it up to the alarm system! So yes, I have already purchased a second one of these to install in a friends car and I may be purchasing more in the future for others.once its a cable release trunk system and if you don't already have an electrical release in your car, this can basically be installed in your trunk!

It ended up in the trunk of a 2010 Honda Civic! Pretty strong! It works with a cheap remote control with a relay solution!

Poor Pulling Power, DO NOT BUY
I should have listen to the buyers about the poor power. This thing is just a toy! I does pull, but not enough strong to move the trunk actuator to open it lid. Now you may say it doesn't function because of bad installation. I agree that installation is important, but I tried different setups and location for the solenoid, but no luck! The solenoid is weak enough that if you install it upside down, it hardly can pull the inner part against the spring. There is a different brand with a larger solenoid that has is much more powerful.

Inexpensive way to add a bit of luxury to the old japlopy...
Unless you bought a car with a lower trim and can get the trunk popper mechanism specific to your car, this kit makes a great universal retrofit to allow any car trunk lock to be opened electronically. I have read reviews that this solenoid is not powerful enough to open the lock,. I initially thought that was the case when I hooked it up the first. The key to making it work is to leave slack in the cable when you connect it to you mechanism's latch (take time to remove the latch and drill a latch hole to keep the cable securely attached). This is because the slack allows the solenoid weight to accelerate a bit and tug on the latch with a more force. I think the mistake most made who found it disappointing was to make the cable taught, which is wrong. The kit has most everything you will need however if you don't have a source of constant on power in your trunk area, you will have to run a wire.Good value and it came in a reasonable amount of time.

It works fine and is actually pretty quiet
I installed this item in my 1996 Miata. It's an overly complete kit, but it was about the only one out there, so I bought it. I did not need the switch nor the wiring that came with it. The release solenoid was easy enough to install, but the solenoid is not labeled for positive and negative. I had to figure that out myself. Not a big deal, but it would be nice if at least negative ground was labeled. Other than that, it works fine and is actually pretty quiet.

DEI continues with great products.
With over 20 years working in Mobile Electronics its good to see some things haven't changed. A lot of products become less expensive by becoming "cheaper" disposable items. DEI has stayed consistent for decades, being the best. This product isn't for the novice. It will most likely require a strong knowledge of (how things work) to put in place.I had to cut away via Dremel about 12 square inches of metal to access the latch and allow for free travel of the cable on a 92 Toyota Tercel. Ensure you have good ground continuity of your trunk lid to chassis before affixing the provided ground strap. Utilize Loctite 242 or equivalent on all threads as the action when energized is somewhat violent. This will loosen the hardware over time if not applied. If you are adding this to an aftermarket security system with 200ma (-) output do the following. Requiring a SPDT 30A relay. 86 and 87 fused 15A 12VDC. 85 to alarm output. 30 to the trunk release.

Simple, adequate force to do the job
Just wanted to add a data point - plenty of pull to unlock the trunk of a first generation Neon. Its lock mechanism is typical of most, and I'd expect this to work on most cars if deck lid alignment is correct, trunk bumpers are set correctly, and the latch mechanism is clean. Before buying this or any other, consider how and where you will mount it.

Ineffective
The kit is nice, but the actual solenoid is pathetically weak and just about useless. Not recommended.
