Are these patterned on both sides or only just the front?

Only the knives are patterned on both sides. All of the spoons and forks are only patterned on the front. Lovely pattern though, true to picture.

Why was i asked to show my passport then driver took a picture of it when it was quite ovious i was a senior citizen

Because knives are in the set and they have to have proof (over age of 18) for their system that acceptable age-appropriate identification was obtained and log/record it (even when they can clearly tell the persons' age) otherwise they won't be allow them to be delivered and leave the package. If they don't obtain the ID (and leave the package with you) then they will be in trouble with their job. Bizarre, I agree but drivers are strongly cautioned if they don't see identification. Just try to not take it personally and see it as you look so young at your tender age of being a Senior Citizen ;)
