In order to set the types of battery you are charging you have to follow little bitty blinking lights. These lights are in different colors and and have multiple sequences of various blinking patterns you have to follow while holding a magnetic screw driver just right on the unit while trying to hold and read the manual while simultaneously keeping track of all the sequences of blinking lights. It could have been made like their Alternator controller with a screen that has actual letters but I'm assuming in the interest of cost crazy sequenced blinking lights won out.
