Hugger Mugger Tapas Ultra Yoga Mat

I have had a Hugger Mugger Tapas mat for about four years that I totally loved... So sticky, I had to peel it off the ground like a bandaid after practice. It got pretty thin and started flaking away at my feet and hand prints over the past few months, so I finally decided to get a new mat and sprang for an "upgraded" model-- the Tapas Ultra.Very disappointed with this mat. I've been using it for about a month and a half, and it's already starting to flake at my feet prints. It slides around on the ground during practice, especially on bamboo floors. (For some reason, it sticks better to hardwood.) My mat will bunch up during practice, which is very distracting. I tried using both sides of the mat to see if one side was for the floor, but same results on both sides. I had read cautionary reviews and was worried I would feel the same way.I do like the extra cushion, and I even got the XL version (I'm 6' tall). It's perfect in those two departments, but I am overall disappointed with this purchase. I mainly practice vinyasa, but I do yin 1x per week. Not nearly as many problems in yin, so if that is your main practice, this mat will definitely work for you.I will unfortunately be purchasing another mat. So sad!! I loved my old Tapas!!

I’ve tried to do upward bow pose for a while with my Gaiam yoga mat. However, my hands kept slipping. I barely sweating, I am sure my hand is always dry. One day my yoga classmate told me maybe is mat issue, so I tried to do the same pose upward bow on her hugger mugger mat. Immediately I feel difference, so I decided to buy a hugger mugger yoga mat.I received this yoga mat just three days and I already total fall in love with it. I’ve tried several poses and my hands stay sturdily. And it is really lightweight but comfortable. I left knee had been surgery, so my knee bone is very sensitive to hard ground. This Hugger mugger mat did a good support for both my hands and knees. I love it and highly recommend to yoga lover. It’s not expensive but do the same job for me, if compared with Jade or manduka brand.

I wanted to love this mat because I loved my Hugger Mugger Tapas Ultra Yoga Mat from years ago. But, as other reviewers have noted, it's definitely not the same product although it’s sold by the same product name. It squishes flat under your foot or hand and rebound is slow... many many seconds. So if you adjust your foot or hand an inch or two from the impression made in the mat, there is slight unevenness in the mat surface. Of course, it depresses quickly again under your new hand or foot position, it just is not the feel I wanted in my practice. The positive is it is very grippy/sticky and lightweight.

I love this mat. I had a Tapas Ultra mat that I got as a gift when I was in my 20s and now I am much older (the mother of two teenagers!) and the mat just recently started to shred. It's just the right amount of sticky and grip without being too sticky. There is no weird smell. It's just thick enough to be comfortable without compromising balance or form. I use this mat for yoga and also for ab workouts and ballet barre style workouts. I bought many mats trying to find "the perfect mat" and I finally just went back to a new mat in my favorite style and I couldn't be happier. My old Tapas Ultra lasted nearly 20 years so I'm hoping this one will too.

This is an oldie but a goodie - my yoga teacher who's been teaching for over twenty years used to buy these mats for her studio way back before Amazon existed. It's sticky but not too sticky, it's not too thick but thick enough. I really like it and I've had several mats throughout the years.

I ordered this because I wanted a thick yoga mat. It is thick but not as thick as I would have liked, I still often have to double it up to protect my elbows and knees. However the surface is comfortable and just the right amount of sticky. And I love the color. Works well enough for my purposes.

I had this mat already and after 8+ years of consistent yoga it was finally showing some wear. So of course I bought another one and I’m not disappointed! This’ll be my yoga mat forever!

This is not like my old Tapas mat. It is rough, has a more open construction, and does not have the smooth but sticky feel of my old one. It feels like it won’t last as long. As time goes on, I’ll find out if it’s as durable.

This arrived and is still in its cellophane waiting to go back. It is thin. I cannot see what is "ultra" about it.I took it to the parcel shop but they cannot take it back as there "is a problem with parcels going to Amazon USA and it will end up left in the warehouse."So now I have an expensive mat still in cellophane.Cannot find the Amazon help page! Help....

I have been teaching yoga for over twenty years and my beloved hugger mugger ultra tapas mat needed replacing. I am pleased to say my replacement is as enjoyable to use as my original. I really would not use another type/brand of yoga mat. I love the extra thickness and find the matreally 'holds' my feet in the standing postures. Would be totally lost without it. Just would have liked a different colour.

Mat is very suitable for the yoga I do. I like the colour. It has a good, slightly grippy surface.
