Escapism should not be a remedy ever!
Call me old fashioned, but this kind of teaching is not my cup of tea. It makes me think it is yet another attempt to bribe/manipulate/encourage a youth to read. Filling ones mind with something (anything), just to overcome a reluctance to enjoy it or embrace it (meaning reading) appears to me to avoid the root cause of the problem. Escapism is not a remedy, but rather a way to avoid addressing the reasons for the reluctance or enjoyment of reading. There may be a number of reasons a young person finds little interest in reading (mental disability, visual disability, medical undiagnosed behavioural issues, dysfunctional home life, stress, depression, and so forth) and escapism is not addressing or bringing healing to the area. I would definitely not recommend escapism as a remedy to any malfunction and this is what I see in this kind of book.

Great for avid AND reluctant readers
This is a great book for reluctant readers and I always have a couple of these books around in tutor time for the students who 'forget' to bring a reading book to tutor time. Several students have enjoyed them that they have gone on to read more books in the series. My 9 year old son isn't a reluctant reader, he devours books at a ridiculous rate, but he finds these books really fun too. It's great to find a book that will cross over the literacy levels and give kids books to bond over. I can't praise these books highly enough - if you like the other books in the series you'll love this one, and if you haven't read one yet - give it a go, you won't be disappointed. It doesn't really matter what order you read them in but if you haven't already started reading the series - the order they were published is:The Brilliant World of Tom GatesExcellent Excuses (And Other Good Stuff)Everything's Amazing (sort of)Genius Ideas (Mostly)Tom Gates is Absolutely Fantastic (at some things)Best Book Day Ever! (so far)Extra Special Treats (not)A Tiny Bit LuckyYes! No (Maybe...)Top of the Class (Nearly)Tom Gates: Super Good Skills (Almost...)DogZombies Rule (for Now)

Better than I expected
There wast minimal information about this book on Amazon so I was surprised when it arrived because it looks great. It’s a nice thick book and will keep my son busy for a while. It was delivered on time and in good condition.
