If you're a prepper you need this
I'm a prepper/survivalist and have lots of cans stockpiled in the bunker. I have a Edlund #1 in the house kitchen and love it. Needed another #1 mounted and ready to go in the bunker for a SHTF situation, nothing wrong with having 2. Two is one, one is none. Mounted it securely to a sturdy swing-out metal table. Works like a charm....perfect. Now I don't have to worry about having a cheap can opener break right when I need it most, the #1 will never break and if it somehow does I have a backup plus spare parts. I'm ready for TEOTWAWKI

This is no flimsy household can opener!
Oh yes, our new 'Old Reliable' can opener lives up to its name. If you're tired of flimsy can openers that break after a few uses, or struggle with larger cans, this is the tool for you (keep in mind, it's industrial, not a little homeowner can opener). This thing is built like a tank. The plated steel base is solid and provides excellent stability, even when opening taller, heavier cans. I've used it on everything from standard soup cans to larger Sam's sized large food cans, and it handles them all with ease. The long handle provides great leverage, making the opening process surprisingly smooth and requires minimal effort. The cutting blade is sharp and precise, cleanly slicing through the can lid without leaving jagged edges. It feels incredibly durable and I have no doubt it will last for years, even with frequent use. Our old one did get worn out (high school's concession stand), even when we oiled it, it was stubborn, so, longevity might depend on how much it's used/abused.While it's a manual can opener, it's surprisingly efficient. It's much faster than struggling with a cheap electric opener that constantly jams or slips. Plus, you don't have to worry about finding an outlet or dealing with cords. Cleanup is also a breeze – just a quick wipe down and it's good to go. Take it from me, watch out for that 'tooth blade!'The only potential downside is its size. It's definitely not a compact utensil you can toss in a drawer. You'll need to dedicate some counter or storage space to mount it. However, the robust construction and performance far outweigh this minor inconvenience. The screws that come with it are short, so consider buying longer screws and adding washers.Cons:It can get a bit tedious since it's rather large. Lift it, and drop it, as long as the can is in the right area it will pop into it.Some of our smaller helpers find it a bit large.Overall, it's an investment, but a worthwhile one. If you're serious about your kitchen tools and want a can opener that will stand the test of time, this is the one to get. Highly recommended for chefs, concession stand workers, restaurants, and anyone who wants to say goodbye to a frustrating can opening experience. It's truly a reliable workhorse.

Solid, Reliable Opener. Actually Professional Grade
I bought this for our home a few years ago when my arthritis made ordinary opener terribly painful to use. This is a large full size commercial unit - exactly what you'll find in any restaurant kitchen. It will open the largest cans and has no trouble with small ones either, even little tuna and sardine cans.It does lack directions so with the handle upright bring it down smartly on the can held tightly against the vertical rail. Then flip the handle down and crank in a clockwise direction.Easy and effective. I recommend this for any commercial kitchen or a household that has trouble opening cans.I tried another lower priced unit that was too cheaply made and didn't work nearly as well. This is definitely a buy once cry once product.

Excellent, every time!
I've been frustrated for years that can openers don't work like they used to, and we've gone through various brands and they work for a while and then wear out or never work from the beginning or only some cans, etc.We finally bit the bullet and bought a commercial opener and it works every time, takes a couple seconds and no fighting with the can, etc.So great. It does take up counter space, but we found a mostly out of the way for for it to live.Very happy with the purchase.

Edlund Can Opener
All around a pretty good opener. I found you must drop the blade down pretty hard for it to work properly but that is not really any big deal. It would not turn the can unless the blade is seated all the way down into a can. I would recommend this because I had several cheaper openers before this one and they were all a waste of money. This one seems well made and looks like it should last. I would buy it again, if I needed a second opener.

Worth every penny, buy cheap buy twice!
This can opener is excellent and works great. You do need a sturdy counter top to facilitate mounting the base, we have a large island with butcher block covering half which works perfectly.I’m a 35year retired firefighter and have been cooking for 60 years including all my time on the Fire Dept. I think just about every Fire Station in the U.S. has an old #1, and some are really old and still kicking.Compared to the cheaper knockoffs made in China the Edlund Old Reliable #1 has a unique cutting blade with an outside curve which forces the cut of the can top down and inward which allows for smooth operation with less effort, good for people with limited hand strength or arthritis, but use care removing the cut top, it’s sharp.Great for banquets or large gatherings like Churches and Halls..

sturdy
I got this for my restraunt to replace my old van opener and it has worked very well so far. It is very sturdy and does not move around when opening cans. The material it is built out of feels premium and like it will last for a long time. I will recommend this can opener to everyone.

This will last for generations!
How many can openers have you purchased? How long do they last? I am purchasing this can opener now because I'm moving with a different family member. This is the only opener that will outlast me.Is it expensive? A little up front. Is it worth it? Most certainly. My current opener is over 35 years old. I have changed the blade, locally twice for just over $12 each time. This opener opens tuna cans and number 10 cans just as easy. You do need to mount it to a counter securely with enough room to allow enough space to for the handle to move an entire circle.⁰
