Great little thing
This thing really fills out the bottom end. sounds very fluid with the matching speakers (i have the rti a1) and has the ability to really "bump" but it does sound very different than ported subs. very very different sound. I think it sounds a little more like it is part of the music. even rap sounds more real, rather than like you have a subwoofer in the room. some people like that sound, though. I am very happy with this sub. side note: seems extra dependent on location. worth buying a right-angle connector if placing in a corner. and play with it. sometimes if i didn't place it quite right it would sound like it was sending beams of sound along both the walls and diagonally across the room, but there were pockets where there was no bass. very good sub though. barely moves but makes a ton of bass. turn it up, and watch the excursion go. the driver can move a LOT if it wants to. goes LOW.

Three Stars
Product arrived as described by seller. But performance did not quite live up to my expectations.

Quality over quantity
In a sentence: It's a very good sounding, well made sub, that's small enough to be tucked away out of view. Now as far as "Wow Factor" goes, don't expect any miracles. And I haven't actually gotten any "Wows! from anyone who has heard it so far. Overall, I do think its worth what I paid for it...under 4 bills, but I also feel I should have spent more $$ for something that could reach a bit lower in Hz.

Last four years
Nice subwoofer while it lasted. After four years, it blows fuses every time I turn it on. Called Polk Customer Service. Internal electronics are difficult to repair. Replacement amp is $300-400. Not worth repairing to me.

Surprised it Died...
Very disappointed. Not because it doesn't sound great. It does, particularly for how small it is. I'm upset that it only lasted 3 years(+ a few days, enough to be out of warranty). It's completely dead. Took it to a local stereo repair place and they said "tough luck". Called Polk and they said I could buy a new amp, but that they don't even have any service centers. They would only help me if it was under warranty (via exchange), or sell me the amp to install myself. Pretty surprised, but I think it's why you didn't see this model aggressively marketed or widely available, even though the Polk guy told me this never happens. Hmm, is that why I see Polk selling refurbs of this model on ebay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/361160892103

Powerful, tight, smooth, and capable of more intensity than you or your neighbors can handle!
I have two of these units as part of a sound system that can duplicate a live concert. The reason I chose the 8" units is because I love great jazz. The bottom end of this sub woofer is so quick and tight you don't miss a single bass thump. Occasionally I have to turn them off because a cable channel transmits unnecessary obnoxious low frequency content that no one else can even hear or experience. They (sub woofers) operate with two large bi-amped Polk tower speakers, and leave people in awe at the sound quality. For day to day music listening I feed wav files to an Oppo BDP-103 via flash drives and the sound is incomparable.

Don't expect Sunfire levels of bass
I recently picked one of these up "used" for a secondary subwoofer application in my THX theater. I needed something small and not overly boomy for a behind seating application. For this type of use it does its job and for only $200 its decent value. If you're looking for a sub that will provide loud deep bass as a primary sub for music or HT this little sub simply won't cut it. If you're doing a small 2.1 setup on a PC station for example I think this sub will work perfectly. In medium size to large rooms this sub will simply not cut it.

Sounds great.
Powerful beep bass for the size of the speaker.
