Buyer Beware ... Junk, Do not buy!
The item is used and discontinued, granted; however, it arrived damaged and extremely dirty with dust and sand inside both tape decks. (See attached photos). The item came extremely well wrapped in bubble wrap, and there was no apparent damage to the box when it arrived.Upon opening the item, there were obvious scratches to the top, and along the front display. It's used, so I really wasn't looking for perfection as long as it worked. It powered up fine, and the display lights seemed to be working, so I tested it with a blank tape just to make sure I didn't ruin any of my good tapes.Unfortunately, the left tape deck did not work at all. It did not play, rewind, or fast forward at all. The right side worked fine.I immediately contacted the seller and sent photos with an explanation to what was wrong. I asked if the item had been checked before shipping, and if they could possibly replace the item.My reply was to this nature, (We do not waste our time or effort to deliver defective items. The device was checked before shipping. I can even show you a video if you would like). End of reply! No concern about the situation, or my inconvenience. If the item had been checked as they say, then whoever checked it only plugged it in to see if it powered on and that was it!Had they checked the tape wells, or the operation of the tape decks, they would have seen the dirt, and noticed the left tape deck was not working.Do not buy from this vendor.Take your time to find something a little better quality. In this case, you definitely get what you pay for.Zero Stars.I'm in the process of returning the item now. What a waste of time.Amazon should check out these vendors before allowing their business here.Zero Stars for Amazon as well.

Dusty, no instructions, but it works.
I had to clean this addition to my stereo. It looked like it was pulled out of someones garage with little effort on the sellers part to make it look decent. Every thing I have tried seems to work pretty well. I didn't buy it to record tapes rather to listen to my collection that I did have stored in my garage. Most factory tapes have issues and have been replaced with C.D.s but my compilation tapes sound great. They were probably a better quality to begin with.

It does what I wanted and more!
I wish it had come with cords to attach to my receiver, but I found some. I also wish I had an instruction booklet because I'm sure it can do many things I don't know how to make it do. Maybe I can find one online. Otherwise I am very happy with it.

Well, no learning curve!
Quite a surprise when I opened the package to find a near duplicate of my old Radio Shack Optimus SCT-56 deck in this Pioneer. No learning curve here. Being the old lazy type, I wanted the auto reverse which doesn't seem to be available in new machines, as I use it just to play back my (some quite old) music tapes. I was disappointed at first - the first couple of tapes I tried to play didn't do too well - drag, wow, flutter. But they wouldn't play on the Optimus either. As I put in other tapes, they seemed to play OK - and most since also. On an occasional tape I had to switch decks or direction to play. This machine is a used one, no question, and that was stated in the description. I think it was a bit expensive for a used deck (not that much lower than the $215 I paid for the new Optimus). It was very well packed for delivery and arrived well within he eta. No instructions (didn't need them, of course). 3 1/2 stars.

DIRTY & Doesn't Work!
This was a disappointing purchase. The deck was basically filthy. It very dusty and dirty, including in the cassette operating areas. The front panel was covered with fingerprints and other "stuff". It was clear that this machine not only was not inspected, but it was not even wiped off! It took at least an hour to clean. Once I got the workings clean enough to load a cassette, the right side will not operate. The left side drags and the tape plays slowly, no matter what tape I put in. Pushing any of the right side operating buttons yields no perceptible response from the machine. The display is so dim, that it can barely be seen with the room lights turned down. The sound output is weak and tinny. I connected the deck to the tape inputs of a restored Kenwood KW-55a tube receiver, which was connected to a nice pair of Fluance speakers. It should have sounded great. I restore vintage electronics as a side gig, so I can make this deck work. However, if I had wanted to restore a machine, I have dozens of vintage decks that I could restore that would have that appeal of the '70s "silver face" rather than this mediocre example of a more modern deck. Very disappointed. Sadly, I cannot recommend this seller.

Better than new ones
They don't make component tape decks like this anymore. The new ones are poorly made and don't have as many features. Find an old one like this one! Great value and good quality.

Customer service isn't very good.
Both tape players worked fine the first time it was used... the second time the second tape player quit working and just made clicking noises. We called the company and left several messages to call us and no one returned our calls. So am sending it back. One of our tapes is stuck in the second player and can't get it out.
