Hot Sticks Encaustic Wax Paints - XD Wax Medium

Encaustic medium is a ratioed blend of beeswax and damar resin. The addition of resin helps to make the medium mixture harder and more sheer than beeswax alone. The size of the hot stick is about the size of a pastel stick. It's approximately 2 and 3/8 inches long and just over 1/2 inch thick. The advantage of using a stick of emcaustic wax whether it is the medium or if it is colored is that you can use it much like a pastel stick to draw onto your surface. Encaustic artists use these sticks on substrates that may be resting on a heated aluminum plate surface so the color transfers or by holding a heat gun in one hand and the wax stick in the other.Enkaustkos has a lot of videos showing artists doing demos using their products on youtube. I would encourage new users to watch the videos to get a sense of their use. Some if the other reviews I read showed that people think this is simply a stick of wax. It's not. Damar resin is added. The size is meant to fit easily in the hand for drawing purposes. There are blocks of beeswax bring sold online too for candles and crafts. This is not for that. This is a drawing/art supply.

I thought this was a lot larger than i had expected.I think I could have got a bigger one for the price of it on etsy.comI think this is the only time i am buying encaustic wax medium, I am going to just make it myself from now on.

The miniature size of this wax stick is a JOKE!! It's so tiny it's not even worth the cost of shipping and a TOTAL RIPOFF!!!!!!!

The quantity is so small it's laughable. Don't buy this if you think you're getting something the size of a stick of butter.
