It does block the vent, but it doesn't matter because I use the front-passenger left vent, and since I am primarily driving alone I don't use that vent anyway. It is pretty-well locked in, and stays that way. I've occasionally pulled the phone out in a hurry without clicking the button in the back— it's fine. This is a very durable and good quality product. I *highly* recommend it. Keep in mind, however, that if you are interacting with the phone too much while you're driving it defeats the purpose of the device, and you could get into an accident if you're not careful. It's useful for having a map up and occasionally glancing at the screen. I use it for DoorDash for this purpose. But again, if you start opening up text messages and trying to read things or interact with your phone too much, you're taking a big risk.
