Great motor recommend this motor for anyone that wants a reliable, well built small motor
Great product, I opened the package and was frankly I was surprised with how well this motor was made and the finish work was excellent. I filled the unit with oil and gas, check for leaks and pulled the starter rope 2 times and it fired right up. I have only had to pull the rope starter one time each time after this to fire the motor up. It runs well, is not noisy, shifts without problems and idles smoothly. What more can you ask for from a small motor. I recommend this motor to anyone that is in the market for a trolling motor or a motor for a small boat, I put this on my SunDolphin Sportsman bass boat and it is just want I needed and wanted. I had ordered one of the cheap motors that are sold here on Amazon, you will know what I am talking about, the 298.00 Cheap Chinese motors and when I opened the box I didn't even bother firing up the motor it was so poorly made. The Coleman 2.6 is made in China too but it is obviously built to different standards then the 3.5 HP 2 stroke motors. Please buy the Coleman motor you will not be disappointed.

Already failing on first outing
I'm writing this review in the middle of the river before I start paddling home because this outboard has stalled numerous times and is now refusing to restart. I think it is running far too rich and flooding. Also, the pull start mechanism is starting to get stuck from the constant restarting. It is probably fixable but I bought a new instead of used outboard for the express purpose of avoiding this. I'll be shipping it back as soon as I get home.

Not too bad a motor!
Alright, Alright, Alright... I was very concerned reading all the reviews about the motor and knew my 1000.00 investment was a crap shoot at best but all other standard 5hp outboards were 1500-2000 dollar range and I was just tired of buying used and spending all my time fixing the darn things instead of being on the water so I thought it was worth a shot. I am happy to say after 5 hours on the water with the thing it worked as designed and worked well. Its absolutely not a bad little motor. I am going to keep it in the garage when not in use mainly cause I don't know how it will wear here with being in the salt air all the time and figure it will help prolong the life a bit. If I get two years of hard use I will be very happy. Now the gotcha's I found.1) came covered in lubricant as in oil so wasn't sure if the motor had been returned but after using a couple of shop rags got it all cleaned up and figured the fine oil film would be helpful in saltwater environment if it worked ok so let it go.2) It does come with gear oil in the lower unit (which was not expressly explained in the manual) though it is SUPPOSED to no ship with oil in the case which was true in my case the oil reservoir was empty. Took about 9 ounces of 4 stroke 10w-30 to fill.3) The cowling is hard to remove over the gas cap and pull handle and found that you had to take off the gas cap to really get the cowling off so that is probably not going to be a good thing if on the water. Bad design on that piece of fluff.4) It is louder than I thought it would be. My 2 stroke 4hp johnson built in 1989 is a bit quieter I think.5) almost puts my 9.9ft fiberclass watertender dingly on plane but does do a good job pushing her through water just fine. Gas mileage was pretty good. Ran up 7 miles (14 miles total) and back at 3000rpm and went through about a tank of gas so was pleasantly surprised and will be very happy now to add the external tank.6) Starting was a bit rough at first but will say they do a decent job of stickers on the throttle to help you start the right way. Took about 5 pulls to start from the first and then after I trailered it with the motor tilted it took about 40 pulls at the boat ramp (typical!! get the thing to ramp and it gets ornery) before I won and it started again. However, I am happy to report that after about 2 miles of running I shut it down and restarted on one pull every time after that.

works great
Great small motor, today it was able to push about 700 lbs on my seaeagle S9, two kids and two adults plus all the luggage, it works great, it started always at first or second pull.. I highly recommended just make sure that you read all the instructions first and understand how it needs to be use.

Becareful if you are looking at this motor
Update, this is a nice motor if you are NOT going to use it at high altitude. After calling Coleman they called back after 2 days and said they didn't have a solution. I could try a Yamaha dealer because they have a similar motor. Purchased the motor and noticed in the manual that it required a high altitude jet for the carb is going to be operated above 2,500 feet. I live at 4,900 feet and with that jet it runs fine, but at 8,500 feet where the lakes are it won't run. It's probably not a bad motor.

Check around for a better price!
You won’t win any races with it, but it moves my raft around really well! On a side note, right after I bought it I found the exact motor at Sportsman’s Warehouse for less! I would have returned it but I already used it.

5HP Coleman -Yamaha parts work
Solid motor so far. It’s a bit of a challenge to find parts for this outboard. Nonetheless it’s solid. Starts on third pull cold, after that it only takes half a pull.Currently trying to find which female fuel line connector fits this model so I can have more than half a gallon of gas in thisUpdate: I was able to find the correct female fuel line connector. This models parts are is similar to Yamaha’a 5 hp F4 outboard. Found a Yamaha one that fits perfect. Updating my review
