No color pictures
I did a search before I bought this and the results indicated that the Kindle version would have color pictures, if the cook had color images. This does not. This is a book about illustrations. Black and white pictures does not make the grade. The pictures are in the middle of the book. I revise my rating. I love the pictures and love Matthew Fox.

Great general and introductory read
This book was among several used in a religious studies course at the University of Wyoming a few semesters ago (with Dr. Grether, WMST 2070, highly recommended). I found the book fairly thorough in revealing some of the history and context of St. Hildegard's work and after having read a few others, I would have to say this is a great introductory book. Another reviewer noted that the color plates are missing in the Kindle version. I can't comment on that, I used a physical copy where the illuminations were available towards the center of the book (very useful).

Cheaply Printed
This is a terrific book. My review is not 5 stars because of the cheap paper the book is printed on. It’s like newsprint, causing the beautiful pages of Hildegard’s artwork to have a gray cast instead of vibrant colors. Would have paid more for a book printed on decent paper.

Arrived in good condition
There were no marks. There was only minor warping of the pages with the color plates. I'm not sure why or even how it could have happened. It might have been published that way.

One of the Best books on Hildegard of Bingen
This book is a very powerful resource for understanding the gifts of inspiration that Hildegard of Bingen brings. There are so many books out there on this wonderful woman I found myself downloading many samples to see which was most complete. I found this one to be one of the most helpful. Matthew Fox really has great insight into the soul of this powerful woman.I highly suggest that you get this book. I have found I read it right before I go to bed and then sleep on the wisdom given.

Illuminations of Hildegard of Bingen
This little study of the life of a 12th century Christian mystic and artist is wonderfully readable. The narrative is organized around the art that reveals this amazing woman's visions and spiritual insights. This study further reveals that women's abilities have always existed - and by implication links the struggles of present-day religious to the on-going need for all voices to be heard. Excellent.

Disappointing. Better translations out there.
Matthew Fox is a horrible intro into Hildegard. He constantly plugs in Meister Eckhart's book; Does little to explain contextual history. He talks about the symbols in a contrived generic way without going in depth. He seemed to add in his own interpretation. Overall VERY DISAPPOINTING. Not worth the money. Waste of paper.
