I read on Wirecutter that this is the restaurant chef’s tool that home cooks need most. After a couple of weeks, I do find myself reaching for this very often. Works great for basting, stirring, and serving.

High quality and great construction

I use this spoon daily whenever I am in the kitchen preparing a sauce or a soup. It makes tasting as you go easy. Easy to clean. Almost indestructible. Relatively inexpensive given its usefulness.

The Silver Stainless Steel 2 Tbsp Chef Spoon (9-inch Big Spoon) has a great, familiar shape. Even if you're not a kitchen professional, you've probably seen the famous "Chef Kunz" (aka Gray Kunz or JB Prince) sauce spoon on TV. Chefs baste their cast iron steaks, for example, with a large, durable spoon shaped just like this one. This version of "the spoon" is more reasonably priced than the official one, and it performs very well. The shape of the bowl is excellent for precision saucing, drizzling, you name it, it will roll off the front of the bowl in a precise, controlled flow. The spoon has good weight and balance.The wide handle is well-shaped and easy to hold and control, with one caveat: the edges of the handle (especially at the tip) should be better rounded. The edges are not sharp enough to cut, but they are rough enough to be uncomfortable. Could be some quality control issues in the manufacturing. Still it's a very good, well-balanced spoon that I'm enjoying using.

When I was made aware of this spoon, a little light-bulb went off in my head, "Don't I already have one of these?"Looked in my drawer and there it was. "Only" 8 1/2" long but nice and heavy, and (surprise) holds 2 tablespoons (a full ounce).My brand says "Towle" on it, and it matches the rest of my stainless steel service. Intended as a serving spoon, of course. So before buying one of these, check your drawer. You never know!
