The actual install of the PC board is super simple, just be sure to read the directions completely and watch a few videos on how to remove and re-insert the ribbon cable that connects the drive to the mainboard in the iPod.Can't fault this device for the difficulty opening the iPod chassis, that's all on Apple!For a little money (this PC board to replace the HDD), the micro-SD card that suits your needs, the tools to open up the case; and a few hours of time, you'll end up with an iPod that works good as new! I even doubled the memory capacity!

I’ve bought these twice now to refurbish dead iPods. Both were gen 5 iPods. Lots of video online for how to do it. You have to be a little patient opening the iPods up, and work slowly. It’s not difficult, but takes 10 minutes or so, but I’ve never done this kind of work before, so others might be faster. It’s handy to look at the video, to know where best to poke. Used 2 high end 128 flash cards, so when finished the iPods went from their old 30 gig to 250 gig devices. They are much lighter now, and it feels as though the battery run time is vastly better. I did just automatically replace the battery on the second one, as when I looked at the first, I saw how easy and cheap it was to replace the battery. So I’d do that to, if you’re trying to revive an iPod.

This is an incredibly cool product, let me just start off with that! If you're like me, you're here because you're looking to upgrade an iPod and this is a cool upgrade, and honestly not too difficult to do either! Big things you'll get out of this upgrade is you'll first have a more power efficient storage medium, top that off with it being lighter, and then of course there's the ability to upgrade your hard drive considerably! In my case, I used an iPod Video (5th gen) that was originally a 30 GB device. With this, I put in two 256 GB cards and now my iPod reflects 512 GB in iTunes.After initially upgrading, I did start to run into some issues where the iPod would turn to a white screen and just act a little funky, and I wasn't sure if that was on a battery replacement I did or something else. After doing some troubleshooting though, I came to the realization that I should have put some tape down between this chipset and the back plate on the iPod as there were likely some issues occurring from shorting out when the chipset was in contact with it. I put some tape down and issue has been fine since.Overall, this is a solid recommendation from me on picking it up, it's not the most simple of upgrades, but it's well worth it.

Would be a perfect 5 star if it worked on the Ipod I originally purchase if for but was able to make it work for a different application....PROs:- Worked perfect for my 60gb 5th Gen Classic. Upgraded from 60gb to 256....CONs:- I originally brought this Flash Adapter for my 160gb 7th Gen Classic, but couldn't get it work. It wouldn't register the storage on board. Currently working with Tarkan to find a fix. Their customer support is top notch....- Found the same product on their (Tarkan) website for a considerably lesser price.

Installed in a 6th and 7th gen ipod with recommended cards. It worked but only with bugs. Occasionally it would simply stop playing and then you had to skip to the next song to start playing again. Sometimes it didn't connect to iTunes. Sometimes it restarted itself after unplugging from MacBook. You wouldn't think an occasional bug would be a big issue but in the end it interfered so much with my user experience that I reinstalled the old original drives. Too bad, it's a great idea. If you do a deep dive you'll find many people are having issues.

Had an iPod classic with a failing hard drove so got this to comvert it to a SSD. This worked flawlessly and was able to add microSD cards to hold my entire music library. iPod is also lighter now without the clunky mechanical drive. Install difficulty was medium hard, mostly due to taking the aluminum case of the iPod apart without destroying it. Patience is key.

Plug and play for the most part.A great way to give an old ipod video new life and expand storage capacity by a lot.Cannot comment on durability as it's only been in my Ipod for a month.Relative to value, that is going to be subjective, but for me it was worth the money spent.

I'm an electronics technician. It should have worked, but nothing. What a bummer! What a disappointment. After close examination an a attempted suicide by overindulging on beer and pizza, I got angry and found the problem. I took an unfortunate and costly shortcut when I ordered this item and trusted the recommended SD card offered by Amazon as a likely pair for my purchase and just went with it. I must have thought I was cleaver or maybe I was in a hurry or something. I forget(hangover)! Thinking I was smart. I just blindly trusted that the other purchaser did there due diligence and homework. Don't trust the recommended SD cards on Amazon! Do your own homework. There is a recommended list of SD cards known to work with this item. Read them. Follow them!
