I have been an Amazon shopper for quite a while and normally don't take the time to post feedback, however, with this item being of significant price I feel compelled. I went through the reviews on this product before purchasing with mixed feelings. I will say that now that I have purhased and installed I am very glad I pulled the trigger on this item. Installation took me about an hour, time mostly spent on installing the spacers (install and uninstall until I got the correct spacing). Beyond that the install was a breeze. Product is exactly what it claimed!! This is a very efficient and insulated product. High quality and instructions were easy to understand. Well worth the money in my opinion. The door is snug and I feel that it will keep out the brutal winters we experience.

I bought this 2 years ago and hired a handyman to install it. It fit fine and is worth the extra money to get the installation benefits. My cat took to it almost immediately despite it being a heavier door. I purchased extra installation to push into some empty areas during installation. The one thing that I didn’t like was the included tape to cover the gap between the doors. It was more plastic like then rubber. It lasted about a year before falling off. I was able to purchase some high quality insulation tape off of Amazon. It was 29.99 a roll and works amazing. I purchased two of them to insulate the gap on the inside and outside of the door. Replacement doors are available for around $23. The rubber gaskets eventually wear out, but my original door is still going strong after 2 years. If I were to do it over I would probably bought the insulated door alone and installed it in the wall for less cost and more energy efficiency. This is a good alternative if you don’t have that option. Also remember the pet door insert will cut down on how wide the sliding opening will be.

The video install directions are very clear. I watched it once all the way through, then just watched and paused between each step. It fits great, the dogs like it and it feels more secure and is more energy efficient. I did install it by myself. The only thing I would recommend is to make sure your sliding door is wide enough to still have room for ppl t go through easily.

This product was purchased to replace an older doggie door, made by another brand. Which fit okay, but not great. I first purchased one of Ideal Pet Products Aluminum dog doors, which just barely did not fit. I wrote their customer support and got a speedy reply. As it turned out, I have a vinyl sliding glass door, so I needed a vinyl dog door. Who knew? So I sent back the Aluminum door in favor of this one.We live at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, with our sliding glass door facing west, so we get pounded by winds off of the mountains all the time.This door fit amazingly well. The design is very well thought out. The installation definitely requires more effort and time than a standard pop-in dog door, so be prepared. I highly recommend reading the instructions several times prior to installation. The instructions could be a little clearer in my opinion, but I have definitely had worse instructions from other products. As other reviewers have commented, measure twice, cut once and take your time during the installation to get it just right. You will be VERY satisfied with the results. The instructions recommend caulking around the door as a last step, and I will definitely do that as well. Very happy with all of the included weather proofing.The door itself is thick and just a tad on the heavy side. All of our dogs are under 10lbs and have almost mastered the newer, heavier door.I highly recommend this door and am very satisfied with the investment. While pricier than other doors, this is well worth the money. I would definitely purchase this door again.Lastly, Ideal's customer service is outstanding. The person that assisted me was speedy, knowledgable, and even engaged in my witty banter. Great customer service!

I have had this door installed for more than a year and I can report positive results! I particularly appreciate the quality of the flap and the plexiglass window area. The flap is much more rugged than the prior door I purchased at Home Depot. That flap was held in place by a magnet. It warped over time and would also blow open when it was windy outside. The flap on this door is heavier so it hasn't warped and stays still during inclement weather. (It also has a sliding plastic unit that can block the flap from opening.) Window area is double pained for insulation.Although the flap is heavier than the prior version it is actually more quiet than the model I used prior. I was worried that the flap would be too heavy for my small cat to open but that hasn't been the case.The only downside to this solution is the appearance, but that issue is not specific to this model. All of these types of pet doors clutter up the view from a sliding glass door.I would definitely recommend this model.
