SNK 40th Anniversary Collection - Nintendo Switch

I bought this collection for a release of Crystalis. That one game alone is worth the price. The collection itself is generous and one of the best as it will more than hold its own to the likes of Capcom, Midway, Atari, or Sega, with its gameplay and the extras described in the product description.If you don’t like retro, than sure, this may not be an appropriate purchase for you. But for children of the 80s/90s, it comes highly recommended as one of the best retro collections out there.

What I really love about this game is twofold. One, I've never played hardly any of these games so it was like finding a box in the attic of old games and a system to play them on. Very much a throwback compilation obviously, and I think they did an excellent job with it. PLENTY of challenge if you like that sort of thing. The other thing I liked was finding that they threw in even more games after you download the latest update for it. A pleasant surprise, and really rounds out the whole package. Highly recommended.

Nice collection of games, however you CANNOT play them vertically while connected to the dock on your monitor/TV...which is unfortunate. You CAN play them vertically in handheld mode, though. This seems super odd that the option doesn't exist when you dock (it literally vanishes from the options screen when docked) for vertical orientation on a big screen (I have my Switch connected to a display I can rotate vertically for just such an occasion), yet it exists in handheld mode. Why not just leave it in for both?

Alright, now this, was epic. The collection is advertised as giving you access to 20 games and 11 more come December. That's pretty freaking sweet, right? But, when you start off the game you only have access to 14 games. You download the other 6 viaba day one patch. Typical for this generation, but it is something to note.The real issue here is when the other games drop in December. That'll mean only 14 out of 31 games are on the cartridge. Only 45% of the game is on the cart? What is this, L.A. Noire? Thankfully you can play the 14 on-cart games no problem without an update.Game selection is varied, ranging from shooters to beat-em-ups and RPGs. I mostly bought this just for Crystalis on Switch, so I was happy with that. I'm glad that game is on the cartridge. Some games are overly difficult, with many one-KOs, like the first 2 Ikari Warrior games. That was how it was done in that era but if you're a more modern gamer you might not enjoy that. This collection only features 2D games as well. It's nothing like the Rare Replay collection on Xbox where it has a mix of 2D and 3D games. The mass appeal for this game isn't as much in my opinion.For those hardcore fans out there I'm glad to say that you can display the games in their original resolution, stretching the image for a larger picture, and doing widescreen. The widescreen isn't native, so games will look stretched out. I mostly play the games in 4:3 but stretched out so fills the screen but doesn't distort the image. You can also flip the games on their side when in handheld mode, so you can use that wacky new flipgrip when it comes out to play your top down shooters more effectively.Overall, great games and nicely done selection. I just wish the 20 original games were on the cartridge.

Shin Nihon Kikaku Corporation is back with the return of the Ikari warriors Colonel Ralf Jones and Second Lieutenant Clark Still, with Princess Athena from the kingdom of Victory and Snake and Bart from P.OW with the help of bounty hunters Johnny Justice, Paul Patriot and Sammy Stately in Beast Busters and Simea from Crystalis and last but not least Karate-Man and Crusher from Street Smart. Let the Games begin again Shin Nihon Kikaku Corporation.

The only complaint I have is also it's biggest failure. The game is not even formatted for full screen. All it is, is a small square in the middle of a Switch screen with a static background.While all the games are nice, esp Ikari Warriors (which is the main reason I got it)....the fact that the actual playable screen is so small makes this game not worth it.Waste of money and major disappointment.

The game list is awful.The "extras" are OK, but the pics are too small and low resolution to really like.This is the first Switch game I've ever had crash on me (and multiple times).Total throw-away. I'm going to sell it.

This collection is done with so much love, i honestly can't say this enough. Every game is perfect, also the ability to customize or hell even just "watch" the game is great. I picked this up some i could relive my childhood. My grandfather bought me Crystalis when i was 8 on a whim, and it turned out to be one of my favorites games I've ever had the chance to play. Every time i play it I always think of him. Thanks SNK/NIS for making this amazing collection.

Pura nostalgia y lo mejor es la parte de museo, con el arte y documentos cronológicos de las árcades de Neo Geo. La emulación de los juegos es buena, así como la selección de los mismos. Un imperdible para apasionados del retro gamming y coleccionistas que no tienen la posibilidad de comprar una pcb original.

This is one of the best retro game collections I've ever played, and one of my favorite new game releases of 2018. This isn't because of the quality of the games themselves, but the care that was put into their presentation and the many options available to the player. This collection allows you to experience these old titles almost any way you want. Many of these games have multiple versions, between North American and Japanese releases, and Arcade vs. Console versions. This collection let you to try them out for yourself and see which you like best. Players also have the option to watch a tool-assisted speedrun, and jump in and start playing whenever they want! This is nothing short of revolution. The additional free DLC coming for this title after launch just sweetens the deal even more.If you love retro games, you need this collection in your life.

収録ゲームに関しては無料DLCも含めて他の方が書いているので割愛しますが、こんなに良いの？って思うぐらい十分なボリュームです。北米版ですが日本語対応。特に何もしなくてもメニュー等は日本語になります、またオプションから英語・フランス語・イタリア語・ドイツ語・スペイン語の切り替えができます。ゲームは北米版(英語)と日本版とをゲーム選択中にXボタンで切り替えができます。世界地図マークのグローバル版は英語です（日本語表示が元々無いやつです）。また家庭用版が存在すれば選択もできます。北米版家庭用、日本版家庭用が選択できるのはなかなか太っ腹な仕様だと思います。ただ基本が「北米版・アーケード」なので度々ボタンを押して切り替える必要が有るのはやや面倒です。縦横画面の切り替えも可能です。一度設定すると起動時の健康警告と企業ロゴ以外全て縦画面になります。従来縦画面のゲームは大きな表示で楽しむ事が出来ますが、元々横画面のゲームは逆に小さくなってしまうので注意です。この縦横表示の切り替えは最初のタイトル画面から入るオプションでしか切り替えが出来ないので、やや面倒ではあります。可能ならゲーム選択時かゲーム中の一時中断のオプションから切り替えできると便利なのですが…。ゲームだけでなく当時のSNKのチラシや小冊子なども収録されています。解説は英語ですが資料自体は北米チラシ特集を除けばほぼ日本語ばかりなので問題ないです。BGMの再生モードもありお好きな曲を延々聴く事も出来ます。歴史的資料と言っても良いぐらいのコレクションです。正式な日本語版も出してくれればと思うのですが、今のところアナウンスが無いので、『適正な価格であれば』北米版を買ってしまっても良いと思います

The in game menus give you plenty of options and choices for each game. Some of the games are hit or miss but there are some pretty good ones in the collection. If you like old classics with NES style graphics then you should enjoy these.
