Makes large ice balls
I wanted to make large ice balls for chilling whiskey. This device works, and the size of the ice and the size of the tray are both perfect, but it's a little cumbersome. The ice balls are not perfect spheres. There's a distinctive seam around them and they frequently break in half around that seam after they've melted about 10% to 15%. The instructions say to not fill up each hole to the top to allow for expansion, but of course, it's difficult to know exactly where to stop, so you may get a ball that's not complete because there wasn't enough water. Filling through the small holes isn't that easy. I have a reverse osmosis tap on my sink that emits a narrow stream of water and it works but I have to hold the tray a few inches below the tap and hold it very steady. Leaks a little bit. I saw other reviewers say that it leaks water into the inside if their freezer. I didn't have that problem, but it does leak a little out of the small alignment holes/nubs and a little out of the fill holes. It's a small amount that just freezes on top of the tray, so it's not an issue. Takes a long time to freeze. A combination of the large size of the ice balls and silicon rubber not being a good conductor of heat means it takes a long time to freeze all the way through, and there's no way to tell if the balls are fully frozen unless you remove the balls from the tray. Even then it's difficult to tell. You're looking at around 12 hours to freeze. Removing the ice balls isn't that easy. I run cold tap water on the outside for a few seconds and that helps a lot, but it's still a pain. Ideally, I'd want to remove the ice balls without touching either the ice or the inside of the tray and that's really hard, unless you want to risk making a mess. The product does seem durable as the silicon rubber is quite thick. I just worry that stretching it to get the ice out while the rubber is cold and hard will damage the rubber over time.

Not perfect, but pretty darn good!
First let me say, this thing is great! For what I wanted it for and the relative ease of use, this ice mold is totally worth the price. I'm being nit-picky when I say that it's not perfect... I've left a couple of drip trails across my kitchen floor and had to pick up some ice detritus off the bottom of the freezer... because it works well almost from the get-go. My only issues are: 1) the fill-holes are small, I hope you have a steady hand (not much you can do about this... like I said, nit-picky), as I've taken to filling mine and removing the ice spheres in the sink so I have less to clean up. Filling, there's a lot of overflow; removing, there are small chunks of excess ice frozen on the top of the lid and sometimes between the ice molds. 2) There's a bit of a trick to getting the ice spheres to release from the mold. I was trying to be too gentle at first (for fear of ripping the mold), but then it would take too long and my fingers would start to hurt from the cold. I've found that a little bit of force/manipulation of the mold top goes a long way to getting it to drop the balls, as well as pushing up on the bottom mold in getting it to release. I've found about 3 out of 4 times, the ice stays in the top piece of the mold, of the 4 or 5 times I've used it so far. 3) Not sure what to do about this, but there are spaces between the base and the lid when secured, that can fill with water and create a small ice shelf. Less so now that I know and I press down on the 5 "buttons" that help to secure the top to the base, but the nature of the silicone trays means a certain amount of flexibility and this causes those gaps. The first time I had an ice sheet connecting 3 of the ice balls together, more recently maybe 1 or 2 look like models of Saturn with the rings, but a lot better. Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for and it works very well! Very happy with this purchase!

Nice little novelty ice cubes!
This is a nice product; works well for large ice cubes. I've followed a couple of recipes and am actually making half-spheres of ice cubes with blood oranges as we speak! Easy in; easy out -- very nice!

Product doesn't meet expectations.
Difficult to fill with water and remove from mold. Rarely forms a complete sphere. Large square mold is better option.
