Q: is this a petroleum based product?

The product label does not provide a list of ingredients, so I'm not sure of the product base. The only ingredient referenced on the label is genuine carnauba wax.

Q: After applying this product how long do I need to wait for it to penetrate before wiping? It doesn't say on the directions.

I actually "rub it in" to stimulate penetration, then wait a half hour to an hour and buff it with a soft cotton cloth like a tee shirt. I think the reality is that you don't even have to wait that long or you can leave it over night.

Q: Does this also work on unfinished leather boots?

I don't know what you mean by unfinished. It works well on saddle and bridle leather which is what I use it for.

I have not used it on goat skin, but I use it on Tony Llama ostrich, and Lucchese Caiman. It works great on both. If the leather is a really light color, it will darken it somewhat.
