ACME 60.5 Thunderer Whistle - Silver

i absolutely love this slide whistle, been using it for over a year now! However i also have my fears and doubts, mainly cleaning it which ive seen is near impossible to do (especially the oiling it up part which i refuse to do out of fear of damaging it), and the packaging it comes it is really cheap. For the price i paid, i had expected it to be handed to me on a silver plate, or in good strong protective packaging at the very least. Now they don't even ship it to my area any longer. Very overpriced regardless of being achme, it seems like exploitation of the name of a brand to make as much money as possible, but the whistle itself is only made out of plastic! and has a metal bent pole in it, not even a circuler handle like other more common american versions.it seems slide whistle a really overpriced on amazon overall with everyone taking advantage of this. i suppose this achme slide whistle might be one of the best on amazon for its price i assumed. Maybe thats true, but it still does not warrant the ridiculously high price for it. if it was metal and if it came with a warranty or some sort of 3 year guarantee then i would be more comfortable paying such a high price again for this.its a lovely novelty to have, but not worth the excessive price!if you have lots of money to throw away, and dont care about numbers, i guess this is the product for you.overall i give it 4 stars, but only because i love the sound it makes. Going based on price or quality or even packacking, and lack of security, i would have gave it 1 star instead.

I bought it for an upgrade on a cheap whistle i had bought previously. I purchased for around £50 which is half the price of the RRP. I still think this is quite expensive for a whistle that sounds like a train. Having said that it does seem to be built to last and the sound is very authentic and loud. Cant complain really as it does everything i expected it to do but better. It is very large though so transporting it about is not the best and it doesnt have anywhere that you could attach a lanyard which i believe would take it to the next level.

A nice robust loud whistle. If you’re looking at an acme thunderer you’re looking at the proper whistle.Sure it’s expensive but worth it. Cheaper alternatives just don’t cut it with the loudness and tone.

1000+ reviews of a peewit/curlew call? No, Amazon have lumped together all the reviews of every Acme product (and probably more). I know this now for certain because I am currently trying to review Acme's train whistle, but Amazon makes me edit this instead.I bought a duck call and a peewit call, as the peewit call was cheap, but I hated it at first because it hissed and didn't work well; but I didn't bother sending it back, as it was so cheap, and the duck call was the main attraction. (The duck calls are fabulous, although mine seems deeper than I'd expect, so I wonder if the pitch varies. I might buy another out of curiosity.)But then after a year I picked up the peewit call and blew it as hard as I could, in anger, and it worked perfectly!So, for those of you who want a peewit/curlew call (yeah, there aren't a lot of you), this thing is great, but only if you give it some serious welly!As for the train whistle, I waited more than a year to find one near half price. I'm glad I did, as it has a lovely deep sound, but a) the mouthpiece is a bit wide, so that you need huge lungs to get it to sound for long, and also it's a bit easy to overblow, which spoils the effect and means it can never be very loud, except in very small rooms.

I bought this to help me train my Doberman and his recall, what can I say, ITS LOUD, REALLY LOUD!!!It's working a treat and saves my voice if he goes too far or if yet again someone freaks out in the park because a huge scary looking daft as you like Doberman looked over at their labrapuggle, I whistle he gets cheese, I get my dog back, win win. Feels great quality, little tip don't blow it too hard first time in the house, my ears were ringing for ages and my poor dog jumped out of his skin like Scooby Doo had just seen a ghost.

It was bought as a Christmas present. It has therefore not been opened yet and I have had no feedback

It’s so tiny and very quiet. Not what was expected at all. Very nearly useless.

Bought for refereeing. Very happy with it, loud and clear - just the job.
