i would have given it 5 stars but it always gets clogged in a month or two. i am also using humidifier tabs with this but if you stop the machine for a day it builds up white crystals. yes i have average hard water but build up is bit much. i get one set of 6 a year. how i use it is i have the humidifier on 24/7. that seem to give it the longest life. don't stop the machine or run out of water and you will have longest life out of these. i guess i replace the filter every two months. Beside that it works great. i am a return customer for years. price is little higher than others but i cant trust the others.

I dont write negative reviews very often. However this item warrants 1 star.Based on other negative reviews, I bought this and the Holmes filters just in case this didnt pan out.Upon installation the filter check dial on my Holmes humidifier registered neutral, within a half hour, the dial was in the red. I flipped the filter, and the dial was partially "good". Half hour later it was red again. I repeated this process more times than i care to admit, over 2 days. I have since given up and removed the filter. I placed the Holmes filter in and its completely in the blue on the filter dial. This product is not comparable to the factory replacement filters. Spend the few dollars and get the factory filters.

Good price but, this brand only lasts about a month.Stuff starts growing on them. I used an anti bacterial but, some other crust (mineral or animal) appeared after a month. I did use an anti bacterial additive for humidifiers too.The Holmes was the best of all of these never-before-heard-of filter (wick) brands. I have tried many over the years. This would be in the top 5 though.The Holmes C is the preferred but they recently jacked up the price to insanity.If they brought it down to a 2-3 pack with each filter 5-10 each, I'd go back to Holmes.

I've been using these filters through the colder months and have learned this: Before installing a fresh filter, run some cold water in a sink and submerge this filter. Let it remain submerged for a few minutes. Remove from the water and insert into the humidifier. Every 3 or 4 days, remove the filter housing and turn the filter upside down, reinsert, and power on. This helps the efficiency of the wicking filter. If you keep getting that the filter is not wicking, remove the filter, soak in water again and if the filter has some hardened, yellow rings, all about a cup of household cleaning vinegar (white) to the soak water and press the filter gently up and down for a few minutes. Let sit for an hour or two. Rinse and reinsert into humidifier. If your water is more hard than soft, that yellow line can occur fairly quickly. Frankly, this whole process is a little annoying, but one does get more use out of the filter. Jeanne from St. Louis.

Holmes 1285 humidifier has a gauge to indicate the life viability of a filter. The gauge is registering on the high end. The unit kicked right on when this replacement was inserted. No instructions, but, I soaked it before use. Only working for 48 hours, but I expect normal use and life. Price is competitive. Incidentally, my unit is not listed among machines that use this particular filter. But my Holmes 1285 specifies use of this filter.

The filter lasts a reasonable time comparing to other after market filters. It works almost like an OEM. Tried another similar filter from Amazon at about the same price, that one only last about one week and then it started giving out smelly air. So far, it’s on my second one of this filter, it never gave smelly air even when the filter is getting to the end of life. No complaint about it!

This filter looks like, fits like, and has the same filter designation as the original filter in my Sears Kenmore Humidifier. However, IT DOES NOT PERFORM LIKE THE ORIGINAL FILTER SHIPPED WITH THE HUMIDIFIER.How do I know this? The humidifier has a meter which shows the moisture content of the air that comes out of the humidifier. With use, the filter performance naturally degrades. Green zone is good, lots of moisture. Yellow is not so good. Red zone is replace the filter (because the output humidity is low). Eventually the original filter needed replacement (worked well for more than one season). I searched amazon, bought, and installed this replacement filter. Worked fine for a few days. Then output declined and meter is deep into the red zone. Stay away from this brand/manufacturer. It just does not work well.

I burned through 2 in two days. Within 4 hours I was in the red. I flipped the filter went another 4. Took it out and 7/8 of the filter was dry. With the Holmes filters I can go 2 weeks. While the price is attractive, the quality is not. This company should be ashamed selling these.

The filter had a black plastic net around it which maintained the filter shape during use.
