Described by The New York Times as the most accomplished documentary filmmaker of his generation , Ken Burns has been making films for America s Public Broadcasting Service for more than 30 years. Since the Academy Award-nominated Brooklyn Bridge in 1981, Burns has gone on to direct and produce some of the most acclaimed historical documentaries ever made, including The Civil War, Jazz and The Roosevelts: An Intimate History. More Americans get their history from Ken Burns than any other source , said the late historian Stephen Ambrose of his work. This seven-disc box set includes seven films from Burns award-winning collection: Brooklyn BridgeStatue of LibertyEmpire of the AirThe CongressThomas Hart BentonHuey LongThe Shakers

Absolutely brilliant
Just a brilliant dvd box set if you like documentaries about Vietnam. A terrible war and loss of life for nothing , very sad and pointless . Hard to say its enjoyable to watch but it's important to know your history . Ken Burns great box set 👌

Ken Burns, illuminating and humane - great and good
What a wonderful, if somewhat random, slice of Americana. I become more convinced by the day that Ken Burns is a genius of our time. I must confess I was a bit shaken by his recent appearance on BBC News. I had imagined a gnarled old genius, not the youthful figure I saw! What a beatiful creative mind though. These pieces do lack the grandeur of his films on the Civil War and Vietnam, but they are always utterly riveting. I especially enjoyed the film on Huey Long, not so well known here in the UK, but an object lesson on the thin dividing line between idealism and the ruthlesness which comes as the end inevitably comes to justify the means. Overall warm, witty documentaries which move and fascinate. Truly we are in the presence of greatness!

Very badly produced box set
The documentaries themselves are, as you'd expect from Ken Burns, well made and interesting. (Though not always quite as well made as the longer series: The Civil War, The Dust Bowl, The Roosevelts, etc...) My objection to this box set is the way PBS have just thrown it together. Fair enough the discs were all originally produced separately, to be sold separately - hence the special features on each disc are identical - but they couldn't be bothered to produce a leaflet to go with this VERY EXPENSIVE box set that gave basic information such as the year the documentary was made - or even its running length!I was quite pleased when I found the final disc in my box set was faulty so I was able to return the box and get my money back!

Burns in form
As always, Ken Burns offers quality documentaries to offset much of the dross originating in America from elsewhere
