Cheap, easy to use, great results

Tight fit but sturdy and does the job.
I got fed up with crappy school compasses and decided to give this a try.It’s made of brass with a steel pin.Construction looks simple but effective, though the pencil hole is very tight out of the box.Once set up though, this is excellent value.

Simple produce which works for scribing perfectly
I have been on a training course to fit Bedroom wardrobes, we had to use different types of scribing toolsand methods. I can honestly say the, General Tools 843/1 Pencil Compass and Scriber, worked the best and was the most accurate.I would recommend this to anyone needing to scribe any type of fitting work.

Did the job, but doesn’t last
My initial thoughts were good on this product, but after only a few weeks you couldn’t get the nut tight enough to stop the compass from opening up while scribing a pencil line.

So this scribing tool has tripled in price.....no longer fits a standard pencil in it.....thanks guys ....brilliant

Great for profiles when fitting against a sloping wall
I was wary buying this, as it is one of the cheapest compasses listed for carpentry. However, I don't need anything fancy or expensive for a limited amount of DIY. The main reason for being cautious was a review saying how difficult it is to get a pencil in, and that it is not tight enough to stop movement. This was not a problem for me. You simply loosen the Wing Nut as much as needed, and tighten when a standard pencil is in place. The Wing Nut is secure, so you can tighten it sufficiently to hold the pencil and ensure the compass won't move. I can't really see how such a simple mechanism would fail, unless either the thread was damaged. I would happily buy another if I lost this one.

Very easy to use!
Had some finish trim that was very uneven on the ground. Used this scriber and followed the base of the gap and was able to fit the piece of trim in perfectly once it was cut. Great tool and super easy and simple to use.
