Works OK, but cannot leave it unattended
12 volt truckers heating coil. I tried this coil to heat a 32 Oz ceramic soup mug with water and ramen. It took about 20 minutes with the motor running in my vehicle. The soup never boiled but it finally got fairly warm. One positive thing is that the coil doesn’t shut off automatically so eventually your soup or coffee will warm up and stay warm, unlike other water kettles that will only heat up to boiling and then shut off letting your soup get cold. This is not something you can plug in and proceed down the road. It must be attended to. The instructions say it can only be used with a ceramic or glass container.

Water heater for RVs
Functions as per the Amazon video about 'van life' and this device. I saw a 10 degree rise every 46 minutes in my 3 gallons of water intended for my recycling pump shower. Use a charger in sync with the discharge. Draw varied between 100-180W. Went down as cables and plugs heated up. Keep an eye on it. Mine got hot, but not melting hot. I'd say just about perfect configuration. I don't advise modification of it. Used clips to hold the cord away from the plastic edge of the bucket. I used a $3 aquarium thermometer to peek at.

Works reasonably well for its intended purpose
I found this unit to heat up small liquid amounts (between 8 to 12 ounces) reasonably well. I tested it on a cup of water (8 ounces) from the refrigerator that was roughly 37-38 degrees Fahrenheit. After 2 minutes, it was warm. After 4 minutes it was very hot (more than hot enough to drink) but not boiling. Even after leaving it in for a few more minutes, it never reached a boiling point. Yes, you can use it on a larger amount of liquid that is in a large drinking glass, or in a bowl of soup and constantly stir it, but the unit is not designed or intended to be used in this manner. It is designed to hook onto a cup (porcelain/ceramic/glass) containing a plain liquid. More importantly, it is not designed to be used for more than 10 minutes at a time (which would be needed for heating larger volumes of liquids). The longer you use it, the hotter the plug will get (eventually to the point where the barrel plug will overheat and potentially damage the casing or other internal components). It does have a 15-amp fuse inside the barrel plug so hopefully that would blow before any damage or smoking occurs. The 3-foot cord is 18-gauge wire, which “should” safely carry 15 amps for 8-10 minutes. The outer insulation is pretty thick so the cord never felt hot to the touch after 6-7 minutes of use (the barrel plug did). As a few others have stated, this heater pulls a lot of amps. I measured the amps with my clamp meter and it ranged between 13.75 to 14.25 amps, which will put you in the area of 180 watts. I would make sure the 12V accessory port in the vehicle can handle 20 amps (or has a 20-amp fuse). You may be able to squeak by with a 15-amp fused port. A few other reviewers complained that the unit blew the fuse in their vehicle. If it blew right away, they may have had a 10-amp fuse on the port. A 15-amp fuse should not blow, unless it overheats, but a 20-amp fuse gives you more of a cushion. I gave this item four stars and would only recommend it if you intend to use for its intended purpose of heating beverages (up to 12 oz.) and will not use it for more than 8-10 minutes at a time without letting it cool down for 2-3 minutes in between uses.

Hot connector and wire - bad design
I thought it is a great addition to my travel kit. I think it is a great idea... However, here is what happened to me: I tested it on my backup power battery (12V 100AH) to see how it is running. After 7 min the water in the mug was not really boiling but was hot enough to make a coffee. It does not have a switch which is bad. When I unplug it from the battery plug it burnt the fuse. I notice the wire and the connector were as hot as the mug... I accidentally touched the tip of the plug and burnt my finger... Not good... bad design and calibration. It draws 29 amps, running about 340W. I am better off using a normal 110V and my inverter. I will return this one. BE AWARE so you don't put your vehicle on fire or draining your battery using this one. Improvement suggestions: Plug lock to hold the plug well connected and lower the heating, use wired that would run 30 Amps, so they don't heat up, add a switch to lower the possibility of burning the fuse.

It Does Well For What It Was Intended
Works surprisingly well. I would not expect it to boil ice cold water but it does warm 8 ounces of lukewarm coffee to piping hot in about 7 minutes., which is its intended purpose.

almost a year of use and still gets the job done
This Beverage heater is a good deal and exactly what I was looking for to heat up milk for our baby on road trips. However, due to poor design I am taking off 2 stars. Pros: -plugs firmly into any 12 volt DC power port, no wiggle room to short out -heats milk, water, and other liquids vary fast. It took no longer then 2 minutes to boil 8 oz of water -Extremely portable and easy to set into a mug or glass cup with a rim -led power light indicator -has not blown any fuses on 2010 ford focus Cons -There is a plastic coating on the element, it will burn off on the first use, so make sure to run it once in some water that you don't plan on consuming -The element is difficult to clean where it coils because it is coiled too tightly so milk gets into the cracks around the coil and burns on but there is no way to clean it out of the cracks without spreading the coil apart a little. I used a butter knife to spread -the coil apart just a hair to get a bristle brush in around the coil. (with the coil spread, it is extremely easy to clean even burnt on milk. -No on/off switch means you have to unplug it every time you're finished using it -Requires full attention, so you either have to pull over and use the unit or have a passenger heat a beverage for you Don't let it overheat. the element is metal but the rest of the unit is plastic and likely so is the area surrounding the power port in your car. We would heat up about 16 oz of liquid at a time with it and once it starts to boil a little, unplug the unit before taking it out of the liquid. There is no on off switch so pulling it out of a power port intermediately after heating the liquid is a must to avoid ruining the unit. Several times, I heated more then one beverage with it in a single use, the cord began to get fairly warm to the touch after heating two 16 oz beverages. I would not recommend heating more than one or two beverages during a single use. Let it cool off for a couple of minutes before heating another beverage. Overall, after modifying this beverage heater by spreading the heading element coil, I like this product for long trips. But due to the necessary coil spreading, passenger helper, and lack of on/off switch, I can only give it 3 stars.

Very cool accessory
I have a few coffee mugs that I use frequently at home, but was always unable to take it out of the house. 15-20 minutes it was cold. Then I saw this, & now I can keep my coffee hot continuously while in my car on a trip etc. I am now able to use my favorite ceramic mugs everywhere I go. I simply take a sealed quart cotainner with me in the car of cold coffee, & keep adding to my cup as go. The element heats it back up to temperature in no time. No more stopping at fast food places or gas stations for crappy coffee.Yet the element doesn't require to be removed from the cup when you take a drink. It stays out of my way without any concern of burning my mouth. The best part is, that it can be used in my car. You can also by adapters that allow you to plug into a120v electrical source with a converter that lowers the voltage down to 12v which is in the shape of the accessory plug like your car has. If you don't have the electric service at yuor disposa, you can purchase a battery charger with accessories that will even allow you to clamp a cigarette type adapter onto the posotive & negative terminals of the cars battery posts. You may think that odd, but think about it. Your camping with no electrical on your sight. I use the spare battery I bring along for my pop up camper, place the battery where ever I'm sitting at my camp site, & plug the heat element into the socket adapter attached to the battery, & enjoy hot unburned coffee, or tea etc. One other scenario. I work on cars. Again I use the adapter I clamp straight to my battery terminals. I now have continuous hot coffee even while working under the hood, right there where I want. It's all about convenience.

This brand is the truckers favorite. It hears one cup. Uses low energy. Quick and convenient. Used them for 30 years almost everyday.

Pretty hot In about ten minutes on a garden tractor battery.
Not too slow. I like the red light on the plug showing it’s connected. Bought for winter safety kit in car

Satisfecho
