Easy to Install and Works Perfectly
The Tonitrui Silent Ball Catch is a great little piece of hardware. It feels solid, the magnet is surprisingly strong, and once fitted, the door closes with a smooth, satisfying click. No rattling, no slamming, just a clean, quiet hold. Installation was straightforward — as long as you’ve got basic DIY skills, it’s a quick job. Everything lined up nicely, and the adjustable design makes it easy to get the perfect fit. If you want a reliable, silent door catch that does exactly what it promises, this one is spot on.

Effective, quieter than ball, but not silent
Works well, used to secure a door that wants to open. Has a magnetic cylinder that catches on steel plate. Quieter than the ball latch it replaced but not silent so not able to give 5 stars.

Really works
I swapped these with original handles and now just have a door knob and this catch on a cupboard. The door cons closes easily and silently and looks good. I am now going to swap handles on other cupboard doors to the same mechanism. Good value for money, easy to fit and the magnet holds the door shut.

Good alternative to keep door closed without a latch and no need to pull handle down to open.
Good idea, gives me piece of mind that my door will not be latched shut if a normal lock fails as I previously experienced. Wouldn’t state is silent though hence the 3 stars, it does scrape to close which is what you should expect from two metal surfaces moving over each other. The magnet is strong and holds the door shut, no need to pull on handles just push, magnet can be moved closer or further from contact panel to increase decrease holding strength.

Did not work when mounted at top of door.
Did not hold one of a pair of double internal doors securely when mounted at top. Had to fit a ball latch instead.

Powerful Magnetic catches.
The magnets used are more powerful than other products on the market. Easy to install and adjustable to alter the pull between the magnet and the plate.

This was a great replacement for the spring-loaded ball catches that wore out. It's not silent. Changing the old ball catches out was easy. The new catches fit perfectly.

There is a video for a review claiming these are too loud and not very strong- The not strong enough is the key. These work great in many, not all situations. Perfect for a closet door, but will not work where there is a window that will create air pressure or in any other circumstance when an air current can open the door. While they are completely silent when properly installed in a door not subject to air currents they can be adjusted high to the point where they will click into each other, and this will increase the holding power somewhat, but it will not be silent. The other comment common in these reviews is discussing the fact that you can increase the power by using a flat head screwdriver to raise the magnet higher in the barrel, this is only true where the magnet was left too low in fabrication. If you can see the magnet assembly sticking up out of the housing increasing it’s height won’t change anything. The attached image shows the magnet above the housing, if yours looks like that it’s good.

I do not know why the product listing shows installing by drilling into the side of the door and wall. It's clear that the designer went to great lengths to produce a product that could replace the ball catch mechanism that installs on the top of the door. I have several interior doors that had ball catch mechanisms and they were not good. Some were too tight. Some were too loose. One became so loose that it stopped catching at all. They were all so noisy and we stopped fully closing the doors and just rested them where the ball meets the edge of the top plate. This product fixed all that. It fit in to the original holes, including the screw holes...no drilling required. It took me a while to figure out that this item was the one I needed. There are several versions of magnetic ball catch hardware on Amazon with slightly different sizes. So measure your existing hardware first. If it matches, you are golden. The magnets are both strong and not strong. Before installation when I manually moved the magnets close, they snapped together with a solid force. But if I close a door with too much force it can escape the magnetic force and bounce back out. There was a little bit of adjustment to learn how to work with the magnetic catches and now it's working very well. There was one other issue. Without the ball physically catching into the depression, the door would hit the back wood before the magnet would catch it and center it. That was quite noisy. To resolve that, I put a bit of weather stripping on the door frame to absorb the impact. All in all, I'm quite happy with this upgrade.
