After getting caught in the rain a few times, I soon took to wearing boots as my primary footwear. I needed high boots and hate all that lacing, I found western boots suited me well. Some brands did not feel right for me from the start, but I did find a few pairs of other brands that I liked. Yet, once I got my first pair of Ariats, I was sold. They have been the best fit and comfort for me. After several years of wearing Ariat western boots, I decided that I would look into waterproof boots. I also wanted to try boots with a lower heel as I have wondered if some of my back problems might be aggravated by the higher heel in some western boots. So, I decided to try the Ariat Workhog. The fit seemed perfect when I first put them on. However, the boots quickly loosened up as they broke in. After reading some of the reviews, I became a bit concerned that they would become TOO loose. Part of the deal here is that they are NOT western boots. They are more like engineer style boots. The high heal of western boots shoves your foot into the toe, giving you that snug feel. It had been a long time since I wore engineer boots, but recalled how they had a little "swim" to them. I have been growing to like this feel, and they are not getting TOO loose...not even close to causing any rubbing, irritation or even hinting at blisters that I had experienced with engineer boots years ago. These boots are a LOT warmer than my western boots (riding in single digit temps this year) and I found they actually stay warmer with one pair of socks than two!
